After withdrawing the original Government amendment to an Oppoition motion, Environment Minister Jose’ Herrera moved a new amendment through which the Maltese Parliament is declaring a climate emergency, with the Parliamentary Committee for the Environment and Development Planning becoming the Parliamentary Committee for the Environment, Climate Change and Development Planning.
Minister Herrera stated he had met with the National youth Council, who had expressed their concern about climate change.
The Opposition spokesman for the Environment, Jason Azzopardi, seconded the new amendment by Government, stating that a step forward had been taken in a collective manner on the climate emergency and on what the country needed to do.
The House then unanimously approved the new motion moved by the Environment Minister.
