Professional Partner Organization

The Society for American Archaeology (SAA) Professional Partner Organization (PPO) program is designed for organizations seeking a formal organization-to-organization relationship with SAA when those organizations are professionally oriented and/or not membership organizations. Membership organizations that are primarily oriented towards avocational archaeologists should apply to join the Council of Allied Societies (CoAS).

Application

Organizations may apply to become a PPO after their governing body (e.g., Board of Directors) votes to apply to SAA and agrees to abide by the program requirements. To apply, the applicant organization will submit a signed and completed SAA application form and fee, which is currently US$99. If affiliation is denied, organizations may reapply after a year.

Approval Process

A sub-committee of SAA’s Board of Directors will review the application materials and make a recommendation to the full Board. A majority vote of the Board will determine the application outcome.

Requirements

PPOs agree that they will be guided by SAA’s Principles of Archaeological Ethics and make them available to their members. PPOs agree to advocate to their members that they register with the Register of Professional Archaeologists.

Priviledges

  • PPOs may use the phrase “Society for American Archaeology Professional Partner Organization” on their website, marketing materials, etc. PPOs may not use SAA’s logo without written permission.
  • A single copy of the Government Affairs Update email newsletter will be sent to the designated PPO representative for distribution to all PPO members.

Annual Renewal

PPOs wishing to maintain their PPO status will be invoiced an annual renewal fee, currently US$99.

Withdrawal

Any organization that has applied and has been accepted by SAA may withdraw their PPO status by notifying SAA in writing. SAA may terminate PPO status by written notification to the organization.
