The Riksbank is responsible for issuing notes and coins, destroying worn-out ones and redeeming invalid notes. The Riksbank does not govern how much cash is in circulation in society. This is instead determined by demand from the general public.
The Riksbank has the possibility to redeem all invalid Swedish banknotes, regardless of their age.

The flows of cash
