Woman, 65, fighting for life after 'hit-and-run' in Bellingham
Police are yet to arrest anyone in connection
A 65-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a suspected hit-and-run in Lewisham last night (October 31). She was struck by a car near Lidl on Bellingham's Southend Lane just after 10.10pm, and left injured at the roadside.
The Metropolitan Police say she remains in critical condition more than 12 hours later. The victim's next-of-kin are aware, though she is yet to be named publicly.
No one has been arrested in connection, and enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver. Officers are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward as a matter of urgency.
Detective Inspector Paul Jackson, of the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "If you were on Southend Lane or the local area at the time of the collision, please look back to see if you remember anything. This callous incident has left a woman in a life-threatening condition.
"Our thoughts are with her family at this worrying time. We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have dashcam footage."
Southend Lane remained shut to traffic this morning whilst accident investigation work took place, but has since reopened. A cordon and multiple police cars could reportedly be seen on the busy road.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit witness line number on 020 7960 8044, quoting 9111/31NOV25.
