Service facilities for research

Max Planck Information and Technology (MaxIT) in Munich is a central institution of the Max Planck Society for research support and administration-related information and IT services. It combines the former Information and Communication Technology Department of the General Administration of the Max Planck Society and the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) under one roof.

Key tasks for Max Planck Institutes all over Germany include application development and optimization, data management for big data projects, operation of a central supercomputer and compute clusters for institutes, and operation of a modern data infrastructure including long-term archival.

As a national service provider, DKRZ (English: German Climate Computation Center) operates a supercomputer centre to enable climate simulation and provides the scientific users with the technical infrastructure needed for processing and analysis of climate data.

The GWDG (English: Association of Scientific Data Processing mbH Göttingen) is the IT computer centre for the Georg-August-University Göttingen and a computer and IT competence centre for the Max Planck Society. It provides many services for the scientific data processing.

The Max Planck-Genome-centre Cologne (MP-GC) is a core facility for Max Planck Institutes performing next generation sequencing (NGS). It is open for scientists of institutes and departments within the Max Planck Society which contribute to MP-GC with a substantial financial support.

The Halbleiterlabor of the Max Planck Society (English: semiconductor laboratory) develops, processes and provides commercially not available state-of-the-art semiconductor radiation detectors for advanced experiments focusing on high energy and astrophysics research.

The Max Planck Society supports a scientific information retrieval service (IVS) for the fields chemistry, physics, and technology (IVS-CPT in Stuttgart).

The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) is a central scientific service unit within the Max Planck Society dedicated to the strategic planning, development and operation of the digital infrastructures necessary for providing the institutes with scientific information and for supporting web-based scholarly communication.
