Ashye Marcus shared thisBravo to Krystina Gustafson and Caroline Farley for orchestrating what will be an amazing Year 2 of RetailClub and taking over LinkedIn today! Excited to see old friends, make new industry connections, learn, and share. In a tech driven world, IRL spikes in importance. 🌴 #retailclub #retail #ai #agenticcommerce #stripeforretail

Ashye Marcus shared thisI've fascinated by the GLP-1s: the business, consumer, and societal impact of category creation. I'm seeing blockbuster drugs with real health benefits, consumers chasing the shiny (Retatrutide), a proliferation of new entrants & emergence of adjacent categories...all mixed with a healthy dose of vanity gossip. Seeing real Stripe data on these hyper-growth business (many leverage Stripe financial infrastructure) validates the scale and velocity! This Vogue Business piece captures new new consumer need states. A few takeaways nuggets: 💊 The pill changes the TAM: Oral GLP-1s remove a major barrier to adoption. 22% of consumers say they’d consider GLP-1s as pills become available. 💆♀️ Beauty is increasing moving from reactive to preventative: Think skin firmness, collagen, body care, scalp health and hair density. 📈 New categories are emerging fast: Scalp care sales are already up 30% YoY at Boots, while hair-loss searches have jumped 1,000%. When a massive new consumer behavior emerges, the opportunity extends far beyond the category where it started. "In the early stages of the GLP-1 boom, brands homed in on collagen-based products to address volume loss in the face. Now, they’re shifting focus to adipose tissue (fat), as well as the relationship between facial fat, skin structure, and aging....The products reflect growing interest in whether influencing tissue beneath the subdermal adipose tissue could eventually offer another route to addressing facial fullness." #consumertrends #consumerretail #stripe #glps https://lnkd.in/gZUs6dGFThe GLP-1 Pill Era Is Forcing Beauty to Change AgainThe GLP-1 Pill Era Is Forcing Beauty to Change Again

Ashye Marcus shared thisStripe is building the economic infrastructure for AI, and this week's acquisition of OpenRouter highlighted our commitment to this ecosystem. As a tech company at the forefront of commerce, we've spoken to hundreds of retailers over the past several months. Common questions emerge: Do I need to rebuild my tech stack? Will I lose control of my brand? How does fraud change when an AI agent is checking out? I frame it agentic commerce as evolution & a new channel, but not a compete new tech stack. 🌟 Stripe data: 90% of senior-level retail execs expect agentic commerce to be mainstream within 5 years. 74% of digital-first businesses say within 2. We put together a comprehensive guide that covers: ⚡ The three modes of agentic commerce (third-party agent discovery, hosting your own branded agent, selling directly to autonomous agents with no human in the loop). Each leverage elegant Stripe tools, Agentic Commerce Suite or Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) ✅ How to get ready: focus on API-accessible product catalog and the right partners (think efficiency & agility) 💡 The broader ecosystem: what the landscape looks like...who does what The retailers moving fastest aren't waiting for perfection. They're getting discoverable now, and layering in complexity over time. 📅 I'll be at all the September retail conferences so message me to connect in person. Ashye Marcus shared thisOf the 50+ letters I sent my daughter at sleepaway camp this summer, the one thing she was upset about? Missing Stripe's Take Your Child to Work Day. Ava knows her mom loves to work, and she’d never visited the Stripe NY office. So yesterday, we had an impromptu one of our own. 🎀 What she loved: the Hello Kitty artwork at lunch, beautiful spaces (a dreamy library) & stunning views, and my incredibly friendly colleagues that took the time to chat with her. 👀 What she noticed: There were "so many more men than women" on my calls. She also pointed out that I have "alot of opinions.” 💡 What mattered most: She was deeply curious and observant, then asked when she can come back. Her observation about gender was spot on: Women make up only ~26% of the U.S. tech workforce. Women are ~1 in 3 at entry-level technical roles, then representation continues to thin out with seniority. As a mom, I was happy to give her a small glimpse into this world, and perhaps an even more important lesson: We’re paid to have opinions. So don’t hold yours back. 🌟 Here’s to raising the next generation of women who can command a room and just know they belong! #stripe #leadership #womenintech

Ashye Marcus shared this"Kinda chic" to make my own list of the brands I'm watching, shopping, and genuinely impressed by summer edition. Opinionated, personal, and rooted in what I'm actually seeing now. 🏆 Ashye's Retail Awards: Q3 2026 🔥 Latest Addiction: Whatnot Live shopping finally found its format in the U.S. $8B in GMV, 1 billion orders, and crazy high engagement (95 minutes of average daily). ⭐ Stellar Specialty Retail Experience: Aritzia Merchandising excellence (price-quality ratio and on trend), stores feel fresh & have energy, and the customer spans ages. I'm still annoyed I didn't ahead of their blow-out earnings. 🌺 On Fire w/Collaborations & Store Openings: LoveShackFancy Target, Wrangler and Hunter Boots Ltd & more. They're scaling stores w/their unapologetically feminine aesthetic. Was pleasantly surprised by their cool video w/ Google. 👑 Best All-Around Brand: Ralph Lauren A $2B quarter growing DD. They are the best-in-class operator, brand at the center of culture. You know they'll have a strong Open game. This is the gold standard. 🪞 Truly Modernized Legacy Brand: Coach (Tapestry parent co) Coach found its cultural footing with Gen Z without abandoning its heritage customer. Brooklyn looks great and Tabby is super commercial. 💫 Luxury Global Domination: CHANEL Fashion up 16% in H1 and growing across all markets. Its's Matthieu magic & everyone (that can afford) wants a piece. Resale also fetching a premium. They're in a category of their own. 👖 Comeback Story: Gap New creative direction. Cultural relevance. Category extensions. Collaborations. The vibes are shifting and I'm purchasing...many times. 🫣 Guilty Pleasure: TikTok Shop + Temu Their algos are just so good. 📈 Most Improved: Victoria’s Secret & Co. New leadership has successfully executed a turnaround and the customer is responding. 💰 Value: Walmart The assortment upgrade is real (yes, I've purchased tanks for $6). Private label is punching above its weight and the tech infrastructure is competing with Amazon. 🤖 Thriving Modern Brand: Reformationn Nailing it on the fashion and use of tech in store, not to mention they went public. 💚 Winning the Heart of Gen Z: Starbucks Record 35.6M active Rewards members, growth led by Gen Z and millennials. It's a turnaround story that Brian Niccol is puling off (think refreshers & protein toppers) 🎀 Tween Favorite: Altar'd State Crushig the tween-to-teen girl space that nobody else is focusing on with this much intentionality. 🩷 Personal Favorite: Gap + Miu Miu + ZARA A three-way tie for accessible fashion, trending basics and the splurge. 🧢 Favorite SKU from Lyst's Q2: Knicks 2026 NBA Champions Hat bc who isn't jazzed about a Knicks win (sorry Spurs fans). These are my opinions (not Stripe). Not a formal ranking. Just the POV of someone who's retail-obsessed. Any additional segments for Q3? I'm thinking best in beauty and kids.... #retailawards #weekinretail #retailwithashye #retail

Ashye Marcus shared thisI'm looking to September and really excited about RetailClub! Krystina Gustafson and Caroline Farley are event & content extraordinaries, and I can't wait to see how they evolve it from last year's super-engaging inaugural event. 🏖️ When: Sept. 22–24 in Huntington Beach ⭐ Who: 2,000+ retail, brand, and technology leaders 🎯 What: Content, festive-style on how AI is reshaping the Retail industry Stripe is proud to be sponsoring and will be in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) tent. I'm looking forward to seeing retail friends, customers, and partners on the beach. Ashye Marcus shared this🔥 Hot off the press, a new retail case study I’m especially excited to share! I so enjoyed meeting the Wolf & Badger leadership team when they traveled across the pond to join us at Stripe Sessions in SF, they've built an impressive business and continue to innovate. CEO & Co-founder 🐺 George Z Graham "wanted to continue our strategy of reaching customers where they are. What came next? ⚡ 2 days for integration: Because Wolf & Badger already used Stripe for payments, they integrated the Agentic Commerce Suite with speed. Fast & low lift! Now what? 🤖 They became the EA in Agentic Commerce: One of the first businesses in the UK to sell through agents. 🛍️ They turned discovery into a new commerce channel: Their 300k+ product catalog is now connected directly to Microsoft Copilot (for AI assisted commerce) and Meta (for shoppable ads). This is what excites me about the next era of retail. Meeting customers where they are means new modes of commerce and business model evolution. Stripe is proud to partner with trailblazers like Wolf & Badger that are at the forefront of commerce! Ashye Marcus shared thisHappy Monday! Starting the week w/a look back as I was refining on Friday, not satisfied, and read a post our founder shared on writing. TL'DR: Writing is critical to developing your POV, don't pass off AI slop, it's lazy...so here's what piqued my interest last week. 👑 Who's Trending: I observe people everywhere & look at the data/signals. ▪️ Hail King Ralph! Ralph Lauren did it again, not a surprise. $2B in Q1 revenue, growing DD's (+14% growth) & raised full-year outlook. This is a best-in-class operator w/a very clear north star, they’re in the "dreams business" and maniacally focus on their strategic priorities. The brand is at the center of culture with a strong price-value equation. CEO Patrice Louvet has has made his mark and they are the gold standard right now. ▪️CHANEL’s stellar H1 (+16% globally and US +25%). Brand is booming on Blazy's first collections, which landed in March. This is ~$20B annual business with all regions growing, incl. China and the Middle East. No surprise the brand ranks #1 on Lyst’s brand index and a new pump is the #2 trending sku. ▪️ rhode skin sold $27M DTC in a single day and announced expansion to 19 countries. E.L.F. BEAUTY acquired Hailey Bieber's brand LY and CEO Tarang Amin leads a growth machine! ELF crushed it in Q1 with +36% growth, representing their 30th consecutive quarter of growth. 🛒 Commerce: A Shopify Beat Shopify posted $3.6B in Q2 revenue (+34% YoY). GMV hit nearly $116B (+32%), every key line beat. Shares surged ~17% (still down SDs this year, but Jefferies called it "the AI commerce play to own.") Bravo on the 5th consecutive quarter of 30%+ GMV growth. Harley Finkelstein's appearance on CNBC highlights what a savvy storyteller he is. 75% of AI-driven purchases during the quarter came from product categories outside the top 100, evidence that AI is helping smaller merchants compete alongside larger brands. 💊 GLP-1 Is Reshaping Retail Two drugs built a $70B+ drug class and reached less <2% of eligible patients. National Retail Federation shared apparel retailers are actively adjusting store layouts & size curves. I see the rise of these fast-growing businesses on Stripe, and I’ve also surfaced a new complexity: image generation tools that retailers are increasingly using now need to keep pace with a customer's current weight. Customers want to see looks in their current size, so this has personalization implications too. 🎧 Bonus… podcasts worth consuming 🌟 Neil Saunders (GlobalData) on Ken Pilot's The Retail Pilot. Excellent questions, thoughtful answers on the state of retail. I agreed with his POV & Ken gets the best interviews. 🌟 Dianne Na Penn (Anthropic first technical PM) on Lenny Rachitsky' Podcast. Enjoyed an insider's POV on model advancements, the eval-driven dev loop, and human judgement. This post is AI-informed, human-edited, and personally opinionated. #weekinretail #retailwithashye #retailnews #ai #retail #retail #stripe

Ashye Marcus liked thisAshye Marcus liked thisMentorship isn't a checkbox for me; it's one of the most energizing parts of how I lead. This summer, it showed up in two different rooms, and it turned out to be the same conversation. This year, I had the privilege of serving as a mentor through the Fashion Scholarship Fund Mentorship Program, paired with the sharp and thoughtful Trinity Philbert. More recently, I sat down with LoveShackFancy's intern cohort for a Q&A. With both, the conversation went to the same honest places: my own career journey and the winding path that got me here, what LSF's brand DNA and story actually mean day-to-day, the entry-level skills that matter most early on, how our teams collaborate cross-functionally, and the resume and portfolio edits that can change how your story lands. What struck me both times was how much career advice is really relationship advice in disguise. Watching Trinity and our interns leave those conversations a little more confident, clearer about their own story, and less afraid to ask the next question is exactly the point. The fashion industry runs on relationships. The people who invest in you early rarely disappear from your career; they reappear as collaborators, hires, and mentors of their own. So if you’re early in yours: ask for the coffee chat. Ask for the resume review. The worst answer is no, and the best ones change everything. Grateful to Trinity, our summer interns, and the Fashion Scholarship Fund for the reminder that building the next generation of this industry is among the most important work we do.

Ashye Marcus reacted on thisAshye Marcus reacted on thisI’m officially a boomerang. 🔄 I’m incredibly excited to share that I’m returning to Amazon Web Services (AWS) as Principal - Retail, Restaurants & CPG - Industry & Solutions. I’m bringing with me a lot of new perspective, experiences and relationships that have shaped how I think about industry transformation, innovation and, most importantly, how we turn technology into real business value. Now I get to put that perspective to work helping some of the world’s leading Retail, Restaurant and CPG organizations navigate one of the biggest moments of transformation we’ve seen. AI is changing what’s possible, and I’m excited to help our customers turn that possibility into real outcomes. But perhaps what I’m most excited about is the people. I can’t wait to reconnect with so many friends and colleagues across AWS, meet new ones, and get back to building alongside customers and partners around the world. Sometimes the next chapter takes you somewhere new. And sometimes, it brings you back. I’m incredibly grateful to be back. And I’m even more excited about what’s ahead. A big thank you to Shahin Rahmani and Prabal Acharyya for this AWSome opportunity! Let’s get to work. 🚀 #AWS #IndustrySolutions #Retail #Restaurants #CPG #AI #BackAtAWS #AWSPartners

Headed to NRF 2026 next week in NYC 🍎 , and I'm thinking about how much has changed in retail loyalty over the past 18 months. We've moved from "earn points, get rewards" to something far more sophisticated. The retailers winning right now? They're not just tracking transactions—they're orchestrating experiences across every touchpoint. Here's what I'm watching closely at NRF: 🟠 Mobile wallet integration has become table stakes. But the gap between brands who treat it as a digital card holder versus those using it as a strategic engagement layer is massive. 🟠 Channel marketing is no longer about consistency—it's about context. Your customer's relationship with you on mobile isn't the same as in-store or online. Stop treating it that way. 🟠 Loyalty programs that still rely solely on discounts are leaving money on the table. The real value is in behavioral data that informs everything from inventory to personalization. I'm particularly interested in conversations around how brands are connecting loyalty strategy to actual business outcomes—not just engagement metrics. If you're at NRF and want to talk mobile wallet strategy, channel orchestration, or how to build loyalty programs that actually drive margin, let's connect. Always happy to swap insights with people pushing this space forward. Drop a comment or DM if you'll be there. ☕ #NRF #Loyalty #Retail #RetailInnovation #MobileWallet #DigitalWallet

Amazon is expanding its Multi-Channel Fulfillment service to support merchants’ sales on Walmart, Shopify and Shein as part of several new features in its supply chain portfolio, according to Dharmesh Mehta, VP of worldwide selling partner services. “Now, already we’ve just launched for orders from Walmart,” Mehta told Supply Chain Dive. “We’re expanding our partnership with Shopify, and then coming later this year, we’ll support Shein.”
