Much of Iceland is set to experience wintry weather today, with temperatures hovering close to freezing and precipitation likely in many areas.

According to the Icelandic Met Office, various parts of the country will experience rain and snow falling intermittently. This would be accompanied by light and variable winds ranging between three and ten metres per second.

Conditions are expected to change slightly tomorrow as winds turn northeasterly, although speeds are forecast to remain similar. Light showers are likely in northern regions, while heavier bursts of rain or snow, including possible squalls, may affect the southeast.

Dry Weather in Southwest

In contrast, the southwest of Iceland is expected to avoid the worst of the unsettled weather. Forecasters say this part of the country should remain largely dry, with brighter spells at times. Even so, temperatures will stay close to zero, with colder air inland where readings could fall to around five degrees below freezing.

Looking further ahead, light winds are expected to persist beyond the weekend. However, conditions may become more challenging by midweek. On Wednesday, a stronger easterly wind is forecast to develop, bringing precipitation to large parts of the country. This change is also expected to usher in slightly milder temperatures.

Residents and travellers are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts as conditions continue to evolve.
