BLAST World Final moves to Singapore

The tournament will take place in the Southeast Asian city-state this year.

The tournament will leave the Persian Gulf after two years with low attendance in UAE

BLAST has announced a new location for its World Finals in 2024: Singapore, where the tournament will move after having been held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi for the past two years.

"We are excited to host the BLAST Premier World Final and the BLAST Dota Slam in Singapore," said James Woollard, Director of Market Development at BLAST. "The Counter-Strike event marks the first BLAST-branded event in Southeast Asia and the inaugural Counter-Strike tournament series in the region, solidifying Singapore's position as a world-class esports destination."

The World Final 2024 will take place from October 30 to November 3, with eight teams competing for the $1,000,000 prize pool.

All three of the previous champions will be present: Vitality, G2 and Natus Vincere, alongside Spirit and FaZe.

Three more spots are up for grabs, one for the BLAST Fall Final champion and two more from the BLAST World Ranking, where the likes of MOUZ, Astralis, Liquid and Virtus.pro are fighting for those final invites.

We want a City that actually got passion for the game and got great crowds. Singapore wont have that so why does it matter from our pov? Also I meant time zone wise to OP so got no idea how you started talking about money

If you're purely self-interested, then yeah you'd want every tournament to be played in Denmark where CS is effectively a mainstream thing everyone knows about. It brings the game to new audiences that can enjoy the game as much as any other crowd. I think it's cool to see new people enjoy the game and also it still moves away from the Saudi sportswashing projects that I think is unhealthy for the long-term growth of the game as a sport. This will run for two years and you're telling me not a single person in the crowd will get interested or hyped?

That is not my point tho. I want actual CS fans to go to these games, like in Australia, China or maybe even Japan which isn't Copenhagen you know. Blast Finals being in Singapore isn't because of the reason you just mentioned, it is purely for the money.

same thing here in SG. most people either play Valorant or other types of shooters like Overwatch, Apex, PUBG, COD or whatever other shooter out there except CS. CS is really really unpopular here. Im #645 in SG on faceit as a fking lvl 9, thats how dead CS is here imo

its not that bad actually, 675 lvl 10 singaporean players and I'm sure not that much people play on faceit, besides maybe there are decent amount lower than you. I mean around 10-30k players for Singapore which is pretty good

ok here's the grim part okay, lemme fill you in. in those 675 lvl 10 players, there are TONS of DEAD accounts. people who've reached lvl 10 like 4, 6, 8 years ago! how do i know these? because i checked!! i checked my friend list when i came back to faceit and god damn! some of their last match were in 2015, 2016, 2020, 2022, 2024 some are but theres like only 1 or 2 matches like 5 mths ago and nothing since then trust me bro. i've looked thru many many accounts like 2 mths ago because i was curious you are right about the part where not many play on faceit. most play on premier and comp mode. only players who truly want to improve start playing faceit

Also god forbid the Australians and Chinese take a 6-8 hour flight to a country. I guess that would never happen. I also guess nobody in Singapore plays CS at all too. Also I am not an idiot. EVERY tournament is for the money. Blast and ESL are always looking for new money. What I care about is the intentions behind that money. Saudi Arabia wants to uphold their totalitarian regime and keep the money flowing in before the oil stops. Indonesia is a much more liberal country with Democratic principals and are slowly reforming their laws and society. They're simply looking for more tourism money without all the ulterior motives. I'd much rather we get supported by a country like that me thinks.

People in Singapore are bound to find passion and it will also be much more friendly to Asian viewers as a whole. You don't think Blast takes this into account when doing events? This is a largely untapped market few TOs have tried breaking in to as of late. It's all about money and more people watching the game means more money.

I don't know about visas and others, but all the countries you mentioned are pretty close to each other (of course they are still not as close as Sweden and Denmark for instance). Is it a problem to travel from one country to another?

Blast will not host their event in Malaysia due political issues with Israelis players. I don't think team like vitality want play in Malaysia if they missing player like spinx and flamez because they cannot enter Malaysia with Israeli passport. Even tho they manage get foreign passport, they safety still questionable due some low IQ Muslims gonna harassed them. Even worst somebody will try to sabotage blast world premier event like last pgl Copenhagen major did. Politics doesn't work in eSports. Lastly , Malaysian cs already dead just like Singapore.
