Woman arrested after 'hazardous liquid' thrown in street attack

A woman has been arrested after a hazardous liquid was thrown at another woman in Glasgow city centre.

The 46-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, which happened on Buchanan Street at about 18.20 on Sunday.

Police Scotland said a 51-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault. She is due to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court later.

Chief Insp Stephen McManus said: "We understand this was a worrying incident and thank the public for their assistance."

He added officers would be in the area and anyone with any concerns should approach them.

On Friday a woman was hit with a harmful substance in what detectives said was a targeted attack in a housing estate in East Kilbride.

The incident happened on Pine Crescent at about 10:55 on Friday.

A 30-year-old woman was checked over by emergency services but she was not seriously injured and did not require hospital treatment.
