Tadhg Furlong has won a Lions test series at the third time of asking, after an epic second test secured the series against Australia on Saturday.

The Irishman started in the front row and put in a serious shift at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, playing over an hour in a bruising test that saw the Lions trailing for the vast majority.

A dramatic last-gasp Hugo Keenan try secured the test and the series for the Lions, after an epic contest in Melbourne.

Furlong was part of the team that drew the 2017 test series in New Zealand and lost the miserable 2021 series in South Africa, and can now at long last call himself a victorious Lion.

As Andy Farrell's side soaked up the adulation of the travelling Lions fans post-match, Furlong gave an amazingly emotional interview to Sky Sports pitchside.

Tadhg Furlong had amazing answer on what Lions has meant to him

When the Lions tour began, only Elliot Daly, captain Maro Itoje, and Ireland's Tadhg Furlong among the squad were embarking on their third tour.

Daly was soon replaced by four-time tourist Owen Farrell, who was part of the victorious 2013 tour, but Furlong and Itoje were still searching for their first test series win at the third time of asking.

Furlong has started eight straight tests for the Lions and has made himself a hero of the team over the past decade.

The emotion washed over him post-match on Saturday, as he took in what could prove to be his last Lions start.

"It is a little bit emotional," Furlong admitted in his Sky Sports post-match interview.

The Lions has played a massive part in my career. Not so much me as a person but definitely as a rugby player, it's shaped the way I play the game and think about the game.

It's a bit of a mad one. I know this Lions tour is going to be me kind of closing the book on the Lions. I don't want it to end!

It's a great group, it's a special thing to be a Lion. We've a week left to enjoy it but I kind of don't want it to end as much as I want to go home and see my family.

This will be Furlong's final Lions tour, and should Andy Farrell choose to shuffle the pack for the third test, it could prove to be his last game in the red jersey.

Of all the scenarios he could have imagined for his Lions career to end, a last-minute test win in the Melbourne Cricket Ground to secure a series was not a half-bad way to go out.

He compared the MCG to Croke Park and said he could not have asked for a better end to his eight-year career in the Lions jersey.

We're aware of the stadium and what it means to Australian people. It's like their Mecca, their Croke Park.

The crowd here is amazing.

It's crazy, the amount of people that travel and support us. It's great.

You don't want to win games like that, but it's the best way to win it! The elation there...I'm delighted, over the moon.

A superb day for Tadhg Furlong and all the Lions in Melbourne, and what a way for the Irish prop to go out.
