Abstract
This article provides an overview of the available and productive word-formation patterns of modern Albanian. Affixation and compounding are the prevalent processes of word-formation in Albanian. As the Albanian language is very open to foreign lexical influences, many foreign word-formation patterns have been adopted. A very fruitful period of coining new words was the time of the national awakening in the 19 th century when the core base of the modern Albanian lexicon was created.
