Ghana: Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly Supports 57 Hairdressers, Beauticians With Tools

Asesewa — A total of 57 hairdressers and beauticians in the Upper Manya krobo District in the Eastern Region have received working equipment to enable them establish their own businesses.

The items, including hairdryers, hair washing basins, hair shaving machines and sterilisers, were procured and distributed by the assembly to beneficiaries for free.

Out of the number, 32 of the beneficiaries were "madam" hair-stylists, 20 were hair-stylists apprentice, while five are Barbers.

The gesture came as a surprise to the beneficiaries during a durbar to round off a week intensive skill training workshop at Asesewa last Friday.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Felix Odjao, in his address, commended the participants for participating in the training programme which was organised by the Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) with the aim of improving their cosmetology styles, client care and consultation and hair care techniques lessons in their field of business.

He assured the assembly's commitment to transforming the district through the provision of support to individuals who had acquired skill training to be able to establish their own businesses.

The DCE said as part of efforts to support the youth acquire more self-employable skills, 29 ladies had been enrolled to commence training in dress making in August, at the Epicenters of Osonson and Konkoney respectively which is organised by the District Assembly and the Hunger Project.

For his part, Mr Kwame Ampim, the Eastern Regional President of ASSI, expressed gratitude to the Upper Manya krobo District assembly for the surprise gesture.

He added that, the equipment would serve as a source of motivation especially to the apprentices who would soon be establishing their own shops.
