Moshupa — Botswana Telecommunications (BTC) Foundation charity walk billed for April 27 was launched in Moshupa recently.
With the First Lady Ms Neo Masisi expected to grace the event as chief walker, it is anticipated the walk would attract many.
Remarking on the event, BTC foundation chairperson, Kgosi Michael Mothobi, said they identified four focus areas as part of their strategy and that the foundation wanted to assist in areas of wellness and sports development, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, innovation as well as environmental protection.
He further said those who would like to participate would be charged a registration fee, and proceeds would be ploughed back into the community of Moshupa.
The chairperson also explained benefits of the walk saying walkers will get to exercise and burn calories while at the same time they will get to enjoy satisfaction of having contributed for a good cause.
He nevertheless explained that this was not the first time they held a similar event. They started with a charity walk in Ramotswa last year and another one in Manyana.This time, he said, the walk would be divided into two traces, the 15km walk and 30km.
The route would start from Moshupa towards Manyana and descend the hills passing through ploughing fields and back to the main kgotla.
BTC chief operations officer, Mr Alrin Sivako, said the foundation that started in 2014 charged registration fee for the upcoming charity event at P150 for entries to participate in the 15 km walk while P200 will be entry for a 30Km route.
He urged members of the public to support BTC by buying its products and services in order for the company to contribute meaningfully and to improve lives. He said the foundation is a social responsibility arm of BTC in which the company supports charitable acts.
Kgosi Kebinatshwene Mosielele urged members of the community to take part in the charity walk so that they too appreciate the beautiful landscape, scenery of their surroundings and the rich history of their villages.
He said the walk will improve the general wellbeing of those that will take part and and in the process assist in the prevention of common non-communicable diseases that have proven too costly for government and yet preventable.
