DJ Pinye retirement is seemingly not going as planned. His recent confession on how he denied airplay to upcoming artistes has stirred his quiet life in retirement.

He told NRG Radio last week that he never played songs by rappers Khaligraph Jones and DNA in their early days because they made mediocre music.

In a subsequent radio interview, DJ Pinye sought to explain his remarks.

"I retired as a Deejay, niliwacha, siku hizi am mentoring musicians under 25. I realized I can't Deejay forever and I wanted to exit so as I create platform for others like DJ Mfalme who came after me," DJ Pinye told Radio Jambo.

Pinye went on to react to DNA's diss track 'Kapinye' released on Sunday.

"Good for him. He released a diss track but he even doesn't know what I said. Whatever he was told that I said is not true. But all the same I'm good. Am too old to be bothered by such. This is not the first time anyway. As a matter of fact I have seen most of these artiste grow," he said.

On Khaligraph Jones, who blasted Pinye for his remarks but stated he won't be hitting the studios to release a diss track, the DJ said they are cool.

"Khaligraph and I are cool, we even talked and I made him understand that that's not what I said," said Pinye.

DJ Pinye has been roundly criticised for being "arrogant and selfish" and not mentoring upcoming artistes to advance their music careers.

However, he argues that he had to establish a standard of the kind of music that deserves airplay.

DJ Pinye started his deejaying career in the mid-90s, working for Capital FM and Nation FM up to early 2000. He then established his TV music show 'The Beat' that aired on NTV for 14 years till August 2018 when the partnership ended.
