Sudan: Mutaz Follows Up ATMs Work, Punishments for Infringed Banks

Khartoum — The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Mutaz Musa has be briefed on the volume of withdrawals from ATM system during October12-14. This came during his visit to the ATMs Electronic Monitoring Room of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS), in the presence of the Governor Dr. Mohamed Khair Al-Zubair and State Minister at the Council of Ministers Tarig Haj Ali. The CBoS governor said that the Central Bank had been continuing in supplying the commercial banks with banknotes since Friday October 12 to ensure sustainability of ATMs operations around the clock to meet the needs of the citizens. Dr. Al-Zubair announced that the CBoS would start, as of Monday, fining banks against any ATM stops working for 24 hours, revealing that these fines will not be less than 20% of the capacity of the machine every day. A source at the meeting revealed that the Central Bank of Sudan is going to impose punishments on the management of any commercial bank in case it uses the banknote papers allocated to ATMs for any purposes other than depositing in the ATMs for the public withdrawal. It is worth noting that the Electronic Monitoring Room at the Central Bank of Sudan is monitoring the situation of ATMs nationwide, where the instantaneous data indicate the reasons for the interruption of any ATM, whether it is a technical problem or due to the lack of banknotes in the machine.
