Nairobi — Safaricom has passed on the cost of a revised Excise Duty to customers by increasing voice, SMS and data prices from midnight,Wednesday.
"We wish to notify our customers that from midnight tonight, the 18th October 2018, our headline price for voice calls and data will increase by 30 cents and SMS by 10 cents," said Safaricom Chief Executive, Bob Collymore.
He said the change in pricing is a result of the increase in Excise Duty from 10 percent to 15 percent as contained in the Finance Act 2018.
Collymore said the mobile telco has been consulting the government on the impact, timing and exact nature of services that these taxes will affect.
"Additionally, we have also reviewed our prices for mobile data bundles, Fibre-To-The-Building (FTTB) and Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) to effect the new 15pc Excise Duty tax on internet services," Collymore added.
Collymore said the company has filed the full tariff changes with the Communications Authority of Kenya as required by law and is available from our website, USSD, and all our customer touchpoints.
