A bus belonging to Tahmeed Couch Limited which was filmed speeding on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway has been found road unworthy after undergoing a motor vehicle inspection.

The inspection was done by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), after it was impounded following public outcry for the arrest of the reckless driver.

According to NTSA, the bus underwent a re-inspection on the 15th of this month and found un-roadworthy as its speed governor had been tampered with.

RE-INSPECTION

"NTSA updates the public that the bus bearing registration number KBN 399F that was captured speeding along Nairobi-Mombasa highway was presented for re-inspection at our Miritini Motor Vehicle inspection centre on 15th October 2018. According to the inspection report, the bus was found to be un-roadworthy as its speed governor had been tampered with," NTSA said.

The bus owner has also been issued with a prohibition order with the bus detained at Central Police Station Mombasa awaiting prosecution of the bus owner.

"The bus owner has since been issued with a prohibition order as per section 106 of the Traffic Act. Consequently, the bus has been impounded at Central Police Station, Mombasa awaiting prosecution of the bus owner. Further, the bus driver was arraigned in court on 16th October 2018," NTSA added.
