Tanzania: Hospital Sfaff Donate Blood, Stress Laid On Cleanliness

BENJAMIN Mkapa Hospital (BMH) staff donated twenty units of blood over the weekend, for saving lives, its Public Relations Officer, Mr Karimu Meshack, has said.

He told the 'Daily News' here yesterday that the donation was part of activities conducted by BMH staff to mark the hospital's third anniversary, saying it aimed at raising awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donation.

The event was preceded by a cleanliness exercise at Majengo Market compound in Dodoma City Centre. Led by BMH's Managing Director, Dr Alphonse Chandika, the exercise also saw the hospital's staff donating cleaning tools to traders after its completion.

Speaking at the event, the Hospital's Managing Director, Dr Alphonse Chandika, urged members of the public to cultivate the habit of cleaning their house compounds as a safeguard against epidemic diseases.

He said the diseases were on an increase, noting that a lot of money was spent on medication. Dr Chandika said keeping house compounds clean would play a key role in preventing diseases.

He pointed out that BMH came up with the idea of cleaning Majengo Market in order to raise awareness amongst business operators on the importance of preventing epidemic diseases.
