Nigeria: Group Urges Dangote's Neutrality in Election

A group, Omoluabi United, has advised the Chairman, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, not to get involved in the partisan politics of the governorship election.

In a statement by the spokesman, Opeyemi Ige, the group urged Dangote not to give effect to his alleged promise on social media and a YouTube message to deploy his wealth in support of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke.

"The people of Osun share similar values like truthfulness, selflessness, integrity, modesty, assiduity and industry with Dangote. Given our shared preference for the values, we are horrified to hear in the news making the rounds in our state that the Africa's richest man is boasting of how he would deploy his money to buy the electorate of Osun.

"Your wealth is yours to deploy as you deem fit. We assume, however, that you would always cherish positive associations and not negative ones. We urge you to exalt the values that you love, and that best describes you in the politics of Osun State," the statement reads.

The group pleaded with Dangote not to "elevate the wrong values, by association in the state", stressing that the billionaire should not do to Osun State what he would not wish done to Kano State or any progressive geographical space in Nigeria or on any of the companies under the Dangote group.
