Nigeria: Kebbi Senator Denies Withdrawing From 2019 Race

Senator representing Kebbi North Senatorial district, Yahaya Abdullahi, has dissociated himself from an alleged recorded voice circulating in the state that he is no longer interested in seeking re-election in 2019 general election..

The Senator insisted in a news conference in Birnin Kebbi over the weekend that he has already purchased, filled and return his forms under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the purported recorded voice was never his own but masterminded by his "well known" political opponents.

Addressing newsmen, Senator Abdullahi, represented by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Muhammed Jamil Gulma, said, "It came to our notice that some elements are going round within the Kebbi North constituency with a recorded voice claiming to be the Senator's voice telling the electorates that I (Senator Yahaya Abdullahi) is not contesting again for the seat come 2019 general elections.

"Furthermore, I wish inform the general public that Senator Dr Yahaya has answered their call to maintain the seat, despite the dividends of democracy enjoyed by the people of Kebbi North through him, he is also one of President Muhammadu Buhari's henchmen who always have common man at heart.

"Therefore, I am calling on the general public to disregard any kind of circulating rumours related to Senator Dr Yahaya Abdullahi is not contesting again."
