Photo: Africare Washington, DC — It is my sad duty to report that Africare co-founder and legend, C. Payne Lucas, has crossed over to receive his crown and reward. He passed away peacefully on Saturday.
His ambitious mission and stewardship of Africare for many years build the organization to unparalleled status in the African envelopment community. As much as we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life of service. His was a life lived with passion and purpose, one worth emulation the world over.
A giant tree in the bountiful forest has fallen. May its roots and branches continue to replenish the earth. The drums of the ancestors will welcome him home where he will rests in peace and power.
Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to his devoted wife, Freddie, and daughter, Hillary, and grandchildren Walter and Cody.
