Photo: Mujahid Safodien/GroundUp Two more MDC-Alliance activists who allegedly participated in an illegal demonstration in Harare soon after the July 30 harmonised elections, appeared in court yesterday.
The duo - Chamunorwa Madya (38) and Mafaiti Mubaiwa (32) - in connivance with their alleged accomplices already on remand, allegdely went on a rampage, destroying property, torching vehicles, blocking roads and attacking people in Harare's central business district on August 1.
The gang held an illegal demonstration against the alleged delay by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to announce presidential election results.
This was despite the fact that the Constitution gave ZEC up to five days to announce the results.
Madya and Mubaiwa appeared before Mr Nyasha Vhitorini who remanded them to September 18 on $50 bail.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still hunting for the other accused persons who are still at large.
Former Zanu-PF member and losing MDC-Alliance parliamentary candidate Shadreck Mashayamombe and 26 others recently appeared before the same magistrate facing similar charges.
Two other MDC-Alliance activists, Jim Kunaka and Paddington Japajapa, are also on remand on the same charges of inciting party supporters to embark on the illegal demonstration.
According to the State, Kunaka was said to be one of the ring- leaders.
It is the State's case that on August 1 at about midday, the gang, in connivance with their alleged accomplices still at large, proceeded to the Zanu-PF provincial headquarters on Simon Vengai Muzenda Street (formerly Fourth Street).
They stoned the building and shattered the windows in the process, it is alleged.
They allegedly burnt and damaged eight cars, all belonging to the ruling party.
