WARD 27 councillor Herbert Gomba has landed the Harare Mayoral job, taking over from Bernard Manyenyeni who did not seek re-election.

Gomba, a three-time councillor representing the opposition MDC, was elected unopposed this Monday.

His election was a surprise to some as party benefactor Ian Makone had been tipped for the job.

In his acceptance speech, Gomba promised a "transformation agenda" and urged central government to allow the local authorities latitude to develop their areas of influence.
