Makuta — Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi says government is making progress in capacitating tribal administration.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Makuta recently, Ms Venson-Moitoi noted that bogosi needed to be empowered in order to function fully.

She said in the past three years, government had undertaken to capacitate tribal administration by building kgotla offices across the country. In addition, furniture and vehicles ere provided to enable dikgosi to carry out their duty with ease, she said.

She said it might take time to cover all areas but that it would be achieved eventually.

The minister however said financial constraints affected government's efforts in improving tribal administration.

She said the P15 billion national budget was not enough to cover all national requirements.

Ms Venson-Moitoi therefore urged residents together with the leadership to consider using constituency funds.

She said the utilisation of constituency funds had become more efficient than waiting for National Development Plan process which happened in stages depending on the availability of funds.

Meanwhile, Tutume Sub-region Senior Tribal Authority, Kgosi Alphonse Nsala complained of delapidated furniture in most offices.

He said offices across the region were without electricity hence records were done manually.

Kgosi Nsala appealed to the minister to speed up power installation in offices and also requested that they be provided with computers.

Village Development Committee chairperson Mr Kitso Mukani requested porta cabins for dikgosi while awaiting permanent structures.
