Google Apps mobile apps update policy

Google Apps mobile apps are built as native applications for Android and iOS® devices.

  • For Android, we provide updates for the current and two previous named Android releases. (For example, when Android Lollipop is the most current release, we also provide updates for Android KitKat and Android JellyBean).
  • For iOS, we provide updates for the current and previous major iOS releases.

For both cases, we only support the official, unmodified OS versions. Additionally, Android devices must be officially Android-compatible and have licensed Google Mobile Services.

For older versions of Android and iOS, updates may be provided on a best-efforts basis. Even if we no longer update our app for your older OS, the app will continue to operate and we will provide notice of any planned end of service.

At Google, we’re committed to developing fast and powerful mobile applications. Our engineering teams make use of new capabilities only available in the latest mobile OS, which also provide improved security and performance.
