Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update news
Update: Stagefright patch hitting devices
The Android 5.1.1 update with the Stagefright fix (LMY48I) has rolled out for the Nexus 6. Android 5.1 has been available for the Nexus 6 since early March, but this latest version of Lollipop provides a critical security patch and is the first of Google's now-monthly security updates. Find out all the latest Nexus 6 Android update news, including how you can get the Android M preview on your Nexus 6, below.

Nexus 6 monthly updates and Stagefright fix
As with other Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 has received the patch for the Stagefright MMS vulnerability. If you don't know much about it, read our Stagefright: what is it, am I affected and what can I do about it? guide. From this point forward, Google will provide monthly security updates for the Nexus 6, as well as the usual fixes that appear in Google Play Services updates via the Play Store.
If you haven't received the over-the-air (OTA) Nexus 6 update, you can visit the Nexus factory images page and flash the firmware (LMY48I) on your Nexus 6 yourself. The update just arrived on our Nexus 6 and we can confirm Stagefright has been patched. Hit the Stagefright guide link above to check if your device is still affected.
Nexus 6 Android 5.1.1 update
The new Android 5.1.1 build, LMY47Z, is now rolling out with AT&T in the US. It is the same build that was seen on Sprint and U.S. Cellular devices last month. The update arrives at around 81 MB, and brings stability improvements and bug fixes to the previous version of the software.
This could be the last major Android update that the Nexus 6 receives before Android M launches properly later in the year, so you can enjoy a few months of (largely) bug-free Lollipop joy while you wait for the next instalment. Head to your Settings > About Phone > Software Update page to see if you can download it now.
T-Mobile has also rolled out the Android 5.1.1 update too (build number LYZ28E), but Verizon is still lagging behind. Head to the bottom of the page to find out how you can forget about all this Nexus 6 Lollipop nonsense and upgrade straight to Android M instead.
What's new in Android 5.1?
Android 5.1 enables supports for multiple SIM cards (not that the Nexus 6 has two SIM card slots), HD voice calls on compatible phones, and Device Protection. The latter feature is particularly handy, and lets you lock your phone until you sign in with your Google account, even if it's reset to factory settings.
How to upgrade the Nexus 6 to Android Lollipop 5.1
Your Nexus 6 should have received the Android 5.1 update OTA by now, but if not, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update to see if it's available on your network.
Alternatively, head over to the official Nexus Factory Images page, and download the latest Nexus 6 5.1 build from there. It's not just a simple matter of downloading it to your device though, so read our guide on how to flash Android 5.1 Lollipop to your Nexus 6.
How to upgrade to Android M
Android M is developer preview of the next version of Android, and you can follow our How to install Android M on the Nexus 6 guide to get it on your phone right now. It has some exciting new additions, including amazing battery life, and we'd highly recommend giving it a try.
How are you finding Android 5.1.1? Experienced any problems with it? Let us know.

I don't know if the 5.1 update has any thing to with the issue I'm having with my nexus 6, but I've been having issues with the blue tooth connectivity to my hands free phone in my car. Before the update I had no issues. Now for some reason my car looses connection when having a conversation. Streaming music is on no issues there just when talking through the blue tooth. Any advice on this issue would be appreciated.
Since I put the upgrade in I cut my battery life more than half have to go back how do I do it
Just bought Nexus 6 today. Also try today to update to Android 5.1.1, and it got stuck in a boot loop. This is so frustrating! Can it be a problem with the device? Can I solve it somehow?

I got my nexus 6 today July 11 but I haven't received any update yet. The os shows as android 5.0. When I started my phone there was a notification saying that android 5.1 is available and then I did download the update and tried to install but it didn't install. And then when go and check for updates it says that my system is upto date showing os as 5.0. Please advise.

What i want to know is when the verizon nexus 6 will get 5.1.1
Today
Camille, it sounds like your phone might be set on a higher network speed than what is stable currently in your area. You can try lowering your phone network speed. Here's how: Go to "Settings" -> Wireless & Networks section -> "More". Select "Cellular Networks". Select "Preferred Network Type" and slide Enhanced 4G LTE Mode to the off (unhighlighted) position. Good luck.
Douglas. I so appreciate you trying to help me. I ended up getting the update Sprint promised. Yes, multible messages stopped instantly yet at the same time my screen was turning black. Lasted 4 stressful days. I had to drive over to Sprint store being that when I called into technical support, I was told it was the google update and that it could not be reversed. So if anyone else have a Nexus6 cell ever have this prob. It turned out to be my screen protected this time. With the update, the sensor updated also. I don't have the grey screen protector or the mirrored one. I have the new glass one. Day I bout it. Its been on my cell for 3 months. The sensor updating definitely was the prob this time keepn my screen black 75% of the time. Technician guy demonstrated on an off with the clear glass. Wow. Who would have thought.
Thanks a bunch Doug...Happy Easter.
Nexus 6 has bad battery life?
That's crazy because mine has incredible battery life and charges really fast. Did you buy yours used or something
I'm coming from the LG G3 and I find the battery life is very similar. I'm happy with battery life overall.
Have a Nexus 7.1 with 5.0 almost running but it is very slow and unresponsive. How can I get 5.0.1? My build number is LRX21P.
Bet this new update didn't do anything for the pathetic battery life on the Nexus 6.
I also have nexus6 an hav never had a prob w.my battery. It last for couple days, an charges completely very quickly. Altho, I'm havn acouple problems that will NOT go away an my kids r gettn so frustrated w.me especially wen there in skool. Sometimes wen I text them they get my message like 5x. Sprint keeps telln me a software update is comn this week. They've been saying this for over a month now. Meanwhile everytime I'm textn w.my kids I hold my breath. Can someone help me? 2cd prob is, Ppl tell me they leave me voice mail. Yeah ok.I'm not gettn it. So I had my son leave me v.m. in front of me. I did not get it. I tried everything u could imagine. Turn cell on and off soft reset, full reset. Check updates constantly. I still do not receive v.m. going to sprint store is so out of my way. I'd rather just read an try to figure it out thru the board 1st. Thanku for yr time. Camille
