NIZHNIY NOVGOROD, August 6 /TASS/. Anarchist Ilya Romanov who has served a prison sentence in Ukraine for exploding a bomb outside Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) building in Kiev will spend 10 years in a Russian prison for preparing a terrorist act in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia’s fifth largest city located 400 kilometers to the east from Moscow.

The board of the Moscow military district court passed the verdict on Thursday.

"The man, found guilty on counts of the indictment, got a ten-year sentence to be served in a top security prison. He will also have to pay a $2,000 fine," Alexey Yezerskiy, senior prosecutor at the Prosecutor’s Office of the Nizhniy Novgorod region, told TASS.

Yezerskiy said the court had taken into account two mitigating circumstances when passing the verdict on Romanov: his disability and the fact that he has two children.

"That is why he did not get the maximum sentence of 15 years in jail," Yezerskiy said. Romanov’s defense lawyers have already said they are going to appeal the verdict.

In 2012, Ilya Romanov was released from a Ukrainian prison where he had served a sentence for staging a bomb explosion outside the SBU building in Kiev in October 2002. He returned to his home city of Nizhniy Novgorod where, investigators said, he started planning a new terrorist act. Romanov was caught red-handed when testing his self-made bomb near a military committee’s building in the center of Nizhniy Novgorod on the night to October 26, 2013. The bomb went off prematurely. Romanov got a serious hand injury, which later led to the hand’s amputation.
