Estimation Details for Puerto Rico

Estimates of the number of related children ages 5 to 17 in families in poverty and the total number of children ages 5 to 17 in Puerto Rico are provided to meet the needs of the Department of Education relating to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Beginning with the 2004 estimates, the poverty estimates are derived from results of the Puerto Rico Community Survey. Documentation for the poverty estimates for Puerto Rico is available from the American Community Survey. The total and child population estimates continue to come from our Population division.

The Documentation section below provides details of the estimation procedure for Puerto Rico prior to 2004.
