Sutton hopes for renewal with 2nd new hip
Pardon Hal Sutton if he yells “hip hip hooray” when he returns to competition next year. That’s because he figures he’ll be the only Champions Tour member playing with two artificial hips. That is not the kind of history a veteran professional wants to make, but Sutton will gladly take it because it will mean no more severe discomfort.
“I was flinching from pain,” the 1983 PGA champion said. “I got to where I was bent over at address because the more bent over you are, the less pressure you put on your hips.”

Mediate runs away with Shaw Charity Classic title
Rocco Mediate used a final-round 7-under 64 to clear the field by seven strokes at the Champions Tour's Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta.
It's Mediate's second Champions Tour victory in 17 starts.
Mediate held a two-shot lead heading into the final 18 holes, but used back-nine prowess – he was 18 under on the final nine holes for the week at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club – to pull away from Tom Byrum (64). Mediate, 50, was 22 under for the week, tying the tour record for a 54-hole event.

Riegger tops Cook, Couples for first Champions win
SNOQUALMIE, Wash. – John Riegger won the Boeing Classic on Sunday in his fifth Champions Tour start, holding off John Cook and Fred Couples at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
The 50-year-old Riegger birdied three of the final four holes — holing a 20-footer for birdie on the par-5 18th — for a 4-under 68 and a two-stroke victory over Cook. Riegger finished at 15-under 201.

Bart Bryant wins Dick's Sporting Goods Open
ENDICOTT, N.Y. — It has been 33 years since the Champions Tour was born, and its newest champion is somebody special: 50-year-old rookie Bart Bryant is the tour's 1,000th winner.
Bryant, who shot a tournament record-tying 10-under 62 in the second round to build a four-shot lead, closed with a 72 on Sunday and finished at 16-under 200 to beat Russ Cochran (67) and Corey Pavin (69) by one shot.

Tom Pernice Jr. holds off Jeff Sluman's charge, wins 3M
Jeff Sluman was on 59 watch for a while – but his 62 wasn't enough to overtake Tom Pernice Jr., who shot 68 Sunday to win the 3M Championship in Blaine, Minn.
Sluman parred his last four holes, while Pernice finished birdie-birdie for a one-shot win at 17 under.

Bernhard Langer and Mark Wiebe will return at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning to see who wins this year’s Senior Open at Royal Birkdale after they ran out of light. Two playoff holes -- one in almost complete darkness -- failed to settle this year’s winner after the pair had tied on 9-under totals of 271.

Langer takes three-shot lead at Senior British
Bernhard Langer used a nearly-perfect 4-under 66 to take a three-shot lead on Saturday at the Senior British Open.
Langer, the 2010 Senior British champ, birdied three of his first seven holes to distance himself from Mark Wiebe, with whom he shared the 36-hole lead.

Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer fired a 3-under 67 to jump into a share of the Senior British Open lead with American Mark Wiebe on Friday at Royal Birkdale.
Langer, the 2010 Senior British champ, had five birdies, but dropped two shots at No. 6 after he double-hit the ball.

Sauers takes early Senior British lead; Couples struggles
Gene Sauers shot a 3-under 67 in the first round of the Senior British Open at Royal Birkdale on Thursday, while defending champion Fred Couples struggled to an opening 74.
Sauers used three back-nine birdies on Nos. 15-17 to propel the 50-year-old American to the top of the leaderboard, one shot clear of Bernhard Langer, David Frost, Peter Senior and Frankie Minoza in Southport, England.

Players struggle getting clubs to, from British opens
If most of us fly on a golf trip and our clubs don't make it, we worry about being out a couple of thousand dollars in clubs and gear.
For someone like Rocco Mediate, though, the concern is greater – his equipment is his livelihood. Thus, there was a notable tone of angst to his post on Twitter today:

Peter Jacobsen: Staying hydrated no laughing matter for golfers
Peter Jacobsen’s confrontation with dehydration at the U.S. Senior Open has changed his life.
“I will never put myself in that position again,” said Jacobsen, reflecting on the episode. “It was really scary, and I think there is a lesson here for all golfers: Every one of us needs to be conscious of drinking lots of water. There are no special exemptions.”
Jacobsen played nine holes at the Senior Open, at which point paramedics advised him to stop playing. Temperatures were in the 90s, and the host Omaha (Neb.) Country Club was extremely hilly.

Ken Green charity golf event
