BRAC University (Bengali: ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The university was established by BRAC in 2001 under the Private University Act 1992.[1] BRAC University had its first convocation in January 2006. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG is the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of BRAC University.
In 2011, Webometrics ranked this university first among private universities, fourth in Bangladesh and 76th in the Indian subcontinent in their World Universities Ranking[2] based on electronic publication, scientific results and international activities.[3]

BRAC University's main campus is on 66 Mohakhali C/A in Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh. The Residential Campus at Savar is called TARC (Training and Resource Center).

BRAC University began in 2001 with fewer than 100 students. Now, it has grown to more than 7000.[citation needed] The ratio of overseas students from different countries like Japan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Bolivia,USA, etc. is also increasing day by day.[clarification needed]

The BRAC University library — the Ayesha Abed Library — has more than 35,000 books, a collection of print journals and other publications, and subscriptions to international academic journals. The library has two branches: one at Mohakhali Campus and another at Savar Campus.

BRAC University has a growing extracurricular environment through its number of clubs and forums; there are 30 clubs and forums in the university.[4] BRAC University’s mission is to achieve excellence in all-around education. The components of all-around education, i.e., learning, development and identity formation are interactive and add to each other. The students can experience all of these by participating in co curricular activities along with regular studies. [edit] Organizational structure
The Honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the chancellor of BRAC University. The Board of Trustees is the highest policy-making body of BRAC University and is responsible for ensuring the highest level of education and administrative standard at BRAC University.
Committees assist the Board in matters essential to the smooth functioning of the university: Syndicate, Academic Council, Course Committee, Finance Committee, Selection Committee, Audit Committee, Committee on Student Affairs, Disciplinary Committee, Committee on University Development and Committee on Medical Facilities. The vice chancellor is the chief executive and academic officer of the university. The academic wing consists of the deans of faculties/schools, chairpersons of the departments and faculty members.
The director of research is responsible for research, advisory services and publications. The director of student affairs co-ordinates and supports all extracurricular activities. The librarian who is assisted by a deputy librarian and assistant librarians head the university library. The registrar with deputy registrar, assistant registrar and officers are responsible for day-to-day administration, human resource management, technological services and records.[6]
