Fox Television, the upstart network that gave viewers offbeat shows such as "The Simpsons" and "Married . . . With Children," outbid CBS for the NFC television package and will begin broadcasting games next season, the NFL said Friday.
League spokesman Joe Browne confirmed the deal, but he would not say how much Fox paid for the package. WTEM Radio in Washington, however, reported Fox had outbid CBS by $100 million for the rights to the games. There also were reports Fox paid $1.6 billion over four years for the package.
The switch might signal the end of a relationship between the NFL and CBS that goes back to the 1950s. It also gives Fox its first regular sports …
