Code page 949 is Microsoft's implementation that appears similar to EUC-KR. This code page supports the Korean language. The code page is not registered with IANA[1], and hence, is not a standard to communicate information over the Internet, although it's often used for that. UTF-8 is much preferred for compatibility.
