Incident Management
PowerCase’s Incident Administration (IA) module provides complete support for the creation and management of investigations and user/role assignment. IA configures PowerCase to understand the organisational structure of your agency and the human resources available, providing security layers both across and within divisions and departments.
Document Management
PowerCase stores all of your documentary evidence such as witness statements, officer reports, tips & messages, seized property reports, and canvass reports (door-to-door) in one secure central database. Documents enter a task-based workflow where information is extracted and “researched” to compare it with existing data – this information is then reviewed to determine whether any further actions need to be created to act upon the newly entered data.
PowerCase provides an XML based data entry interface that supports the creation of off-line data entry forms, allowing investigators to collect data in the field, ready for upload into a PowerCase incident. These forms can be implemented in a range of XML compliant applications such as Microsoft Infopath or Adobe LiveCycle.
Action Management
The Case Manager (and other qualified roles) can raise “Actions” – new lines of enquiry – that can be assigned to investigative staff for followup. Assigned actions are tracked to ensure no investigative activity is being neglected. Resulted actions generally generate new evidence which is then entered into PowerCase, and automatically linked to its originating Action.
Data Analysis and Visualisation
The PowerCase workflow automatically builds an intelligence database which can be queried and analysed at any time during the investigation. Integrated into the PowerCase solution is Link Explorer, Xanalys's data visualisation tool, which can query and analyse this data, drawing its results as link charts, timelines, maps and reports.
Audit
PowerCase generates a complete audit trail of all user activity within the system. All changes to records are logged so a complete picture of all information entered into the system is maintained. PowerCase records (documents, actions, objects and cross references) can only be “soft” deleted meaning that while records can be hidden if entered by mistake, copies of all data are permanently maintained.
Collaboration
Information gathered by multiple investigators is stored in a central repository, so users around the town, around the country or even around the world have ready access to the same critical case data. PowerCase’s “provenance” driven workflow ensures that all data can be traced back to its origins, clearly demonstrating where evidence came from, why it was collected , when and by whom.
Binder Management
Incidents can be prepared for court through PowerCase’s Binder Management facility, which builds a complete brief of evidence by drawing upon all stored documents, records and multi-media collected during the investigation. Briefs can be printed or saved to PDF.
“There’s no whodunit button, and few cases are
solved by intuition. But now we can get there much faster
and with more confidence because we have uniform data and
a disciplined approach.
“Once you start using PowerCase, you don’t know how you ever lived
without it.”

“The system and the software is selling
itself. Success stories will convince investigators of the
need for a common case management system.”
