Anne of Denmark, attributed to Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger

Anne of Denmark (1574–1619) was queen consort of Scotland, England, and Ireland as the wife of King James VI and I. The second daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark, Anne married James in 1589 at the age of fourteen and bore him three children who survived infancy, including the future Charles I. She demonstrated an independent streak and a willingness to use factional Scottish politics in her conflicts with James over the custody of Prince Henry and his treatment of her friend Beatrix Ruthven. Anne appears to have loved James at first, but the couple gradually drifted and eventually lived apart, though mutual respect and a degree of affection survived. In England, Anne shifted her energies from factional politics to patronage of the arts and constructed a magnificent court of her own, hosting one of the richest cultural salons in Europe. After 1612, she suffered sustained bouts of ill health and gradually withdrew from the centre of court life. Though she was reported to have died a Protestant, evidence suggests that she may have converted to Catholicism at some stage in her life. Historians have traditionally dismissed Anne as a lightweight queen, frivolous and self-indulgent. However, recent reappraisals acknowledge Anne's assertive independence and, in particular, her dynamic significance as a patron of the arts during the Jacobean age. (more...)

Hispano Aviación HA-1112

The Hispano Aviación HA-1112 was a license-built version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 developed in Spain during and after World War II. The Spanish government in 1942 contracted with Messerschmitt to supply Bf 109G-2 materials, but due to difficulties incurred by the war, the company only delivered 25 incomplete airframes to Hispano Aviación. The plane shown in this photo has been rebuilt to resemble a Luftwaffe Bf 109, except without the Nazi swastika.

Featured list: List of Oklahoma Sooners in the NFL Draft

An American football player wearing a red helmet, red jersey (number 4) and white pants holds a football after scoring a touchdown in a game.
Malcolm Kelly was drafted 51st overall by the Washington Redskins in the 2008 NFL Draft.

The University of Oklahoma Sooners football team has had 343 players drafted into the National Football League (NFL) since the league began holding drafts in 1936.[1][A 1] This includes 37 players taken in the first round and three overall number one picks, Lee Roy Selmon in 1976, Billy Sims in 1980, and Sam Bradford in 2010 (Brian Bosworth was the number one pick in the 1987 Supplemental Draft).[4] In the 2010 NFL Draft, Oklahoma became the only school in the history of the NFL Draft to have three players selected in the first four picks of the draft.[5]

Each NFL franchise seeks to add new players through the annual NFL Draft. The draft rules were last updated in 2009. The team with the worst record the previous year picks first, the next-worst team second, and so on. Teams that did not make the playoffs are ordered by their regular-season record with any remaining ties broken by strength of schedule. Playoff participants are sequenced after non-playoff teams, based on their round of elimination (wild card, division, conference, and Super Bowl).[6]

Before the merger agreements in 1966, the American Football League (AFL) operated in direct competition with the NFL and held a separate draft. This led to a massive bidding war over top prospects between the two leagues. As part of the merger agreement on June 8, 1966, the two leagues would hold a multiple round "Common Draft". Once the AFL officially merged with the NFL in 1970, the "Common Draft" simply became the NFL Draft.[2][3][7]

Twenty-five former Sooners have been selected to a Pro Bowl, and thirty-one former Sooners have won a championship with their respective teams.
