RAY WINSTONERay Winstone, had a supporting role in “The Departedâ€ (2006), Martin Scorsese’s star studded crime thriller about a cop (Leonardo Di Caprio) deep undercover inside a crime syndicate run by Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), a Boston Irish mob boss who has one of his own (Matt Damon) undercover on the police force. As both institutions do battle to bring down the other side, the two moles struggle to reveal each other without having their own cover blown. Winstone played Costello’s loyal right hand, Mr. French. A strong character actor known for his multi-dimensional portrayals of hard men on the wrong side of the law, Ray Winstone burst onto the scene with a riveting performance in the British-made “Scumâ€ (1979). He gravitated towards more complex characters, portraying often violent men with a strong degree of sympathy, as he did playing an abusive alcoholic in his breakthrough performance in “Nil By Mouthâ€ (1997). But it was his turn in “Sexy Beastâ€ (2001), as a reticent ex-con beset by a rabid ex colleague trying to recruit him for a job, which earned Winstone some of the highest praise of his career as well as his supporting role in the Australian filmed romantic comedy “Fool’s Goldâ€ during 2008 working beside Donald Sutherland, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. He also then entered into the realm of the high profile Hollywood feature, appearing in “King Arthurâ€ (2004) before co-starring in perhaps one of the most anticipated summer movies of all time, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullâ€ (2008), firmly establishing him as one of the most prolific and acclaimed actors of his generation to cross the Atlantic … more |

GUY PRATTGuy Pratt has played bass with the biggest names in music over the last twenty five years.  From Pink Floyd, Madonna and Davie Bowie to The Smiths, Jimmy Page, Bryan Ferry and Michael Jackson.  Guy’s wit is the stuff of legend and has got him as many jobs as his musical abilities.  His new book “My Bass and Other Animalsâ€ is a hilarious account of life with the gods of music.  It will have you rolling in the aisles and playing air (bass) guitar in the privacy of your bedroom. Timing was great when Guy Pratt picked up his first bass guitar.  He came of age just as it moved from rock ‘n’ roll’s poor relation to something allot cooler.  In the 70’s, disco had great bass lines, but it was punk that put the bass player on the map. With its move away from prosaic guitar solos, punk made sure the limelight was shared a little more evenly.  Of course it helped that the likes of Paul Simenon, JJ Burnel and Bruce Foxton were just so bloody cool. Finally for Guy Pratt and a whole host of wannabe bass players, it became an activity that was no longer hidden behind closed doors yet proudly demonstrated in music shops along Denmark Street and Tin Pan Alley, impressing friends and even getting the approval of girlfriends.  The bass player had finally arrived! Guy Pratt played with Australian eighties icon band Icehouse, who suddenly found themselves supporting David Bowie on his 'Serious Moonlight' tour of 1983. Since then he's played bass with everyone, from The Smiths, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Madonna, through to Iggy Pop, The Pretenders and Echo and the Bunnymen. His live show was a … more |

NATALIE BASSINGTHWAIGHTENatalie Bassingthwaighte, after putting her ‘on-camera’ nerves aside, it wasn't long until Natalie was set to take over our television screens in one of Australia's most popular soap operas, Neighbours. Knowing that the job would prove very beneficial to her credibility as an actress, her manager, Mark Byrne put her up for the audition. At first she wasn't particularly eager to work on a soap opera, knowing that music was her first love. She agreed to do the audition, and accepted the role as the conniving Ramsay Street sex siren, Izzy Hoyland, a character she portrayed for 4 years. Taking on a role so far removed from her own personality wasn't bound to be easy, but Nat really sunk her teeth into the development of the bitchy Izzy. The character was loved and loathed by many, and it shocked Nat when she was constantly being recognised as 'Izzy' on the street. Working on the show became more than a job as she made some fabulous friends along the way. In the meantime, she had been working on her own demos; mainly songs with an acoustic-rock sound before she was to be recruited for Aussie dance outfit the, 'Rogue Traders' in late 2004. After being presented with their music, Nat went in and met the two masterminds behind the project, DJ's James Ash and Steve Davis. They had auditioned a field of 15-20 girls before Natalie Bassingthwaighte walked through the door, but after she sang 'Voodoo Child,' they knew … more |

After being cast in two high-profile 1996 films, Lone Star and A Time to Kill, the actor was soon being hailed as one of the industry's hottest young leading men, inspiring comparisons to such charismatic purveyors of cinematic testosterone as Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. A product of Texas, McConaughey was raised in Longview. The son of a substitute teacher and a former member of the Green Bay Packers, he excelled in sports as a high school student and was voted "Most Handsome" by his senior class. DONALD SUTHERLANDDonald Sutherland, perhaps one of the most prolific and widely recognized actors of his generation, Donald Sutherland made a career playing some of the most unusual and memorable characters in cinema history. Though best known for playing odd, off-beat roles, like a hippie tank commander in “Kelly’s Heroesâ€ (1970), an anti authoritarian surgeon in “M*A*S*Hâ€ (1970) and a stoned out college professor in “Animal Houseâ€ (1978), Sutherland cut a wide swath of characters throughout his career, mainly in order to avoid being typecast as freaked out weirdos. Critical acclaim for several of his performances especially “Ordinary Peopleâ€ (1980) and “JFKâ€ (1991) was abundant, but he rarely received any awards, a surprising revelation given the breadth and quality of his work. Born on July 17, 1935 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, Sutherland was raised in neighbouring Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. His father, Frederick, was a salesman and head of the local bus, gas and electric company, and his mother, Dorothy, was a mathematics teacher.  When he was 14, Sutherland was heard on CKBW as the youngest news reader and disc jockey in Canada. After high school, he studied engineering at the University of Toronto, but he quickly made the switch to an English major and began acting in school productions, making his stage debut in “The Male Animalâ€ in 1952.  He graduated UT in 1956, and then moved to England where he attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts … more |
