[edit] Summary

Description

Comparison of the eight largest TNOs: Eris, Pluto, Makemake, Haumea, Sedna, Orcus, 2007 OR10, and Quaoar. Five of these TNOs are known to have moon(s). 2007 OR10, Orcus, and Quaoar, as well as the not-included 2002 TC302, are all estimated as having about the same volume. Since Quaoar and Orcus have moons, it is known that Quaoar is much more massive than Orcus. The top 4 are official dwarf planets while the bottom 4 are dwarf-planet candidates.

Text properties for future modifications:

  • Font is Verdana
  • Size is 100 pt for title, 72 pt for objects, 48 pt for moons
  • Colour is FFFFCE

Based on the public domain Nasa images: Image:2006-16-d-print.jpg, Image:Orcus art.png.

You can visually verify that the names and former designations of these objects match up on the image. For example: Eris, former designation 2003 UB313, Makemake, former designation 2005 FY9, and Haumea, former designation 2003 EL61. The references for the names can all be found here, at the Minor Planets Center: just type Eris, Makemake, Haumea, etc. in the box and click "get ephemerides", and beside each one is the link "show naming citation".
