Summary

In this tutorial, you learned how the float and clear properties are supposed to work. In actual fact, they work in sometimes radically different ways in modern browsers. We'll take a look at some useful applications that work despite these bugs in the next tutorial.

Exercise

Multiple columns the right way

Floats enable you to create multi-columnar layouts, like the ones we created in Tutorial 19, without any of the disadvantages. Unfortunately they don't work well with all browsers. Can you create a style sheet that will have the same effect as those in Tutorial 19, but uses floats instead? You might want to get the Mozilla browser to test your style sheet.
