About Alhoash
|
We are pleased to welcome you to Palestinian Art Court – Al
Hoash. Al Hoash has been a collaboration of thoughts and dreams that
has finally emerged into a reality due to the hard work and beliefs
of those involved in its creation. The Palestinian Art Court - Al
Hoash is an independent non-profit organization, based in Jerusalem.
It was founded and officially registered in Israel in June 2004 to
form a core for a future Palestinian National gallery in Jerusalem,
and to be a center dedicated to the preservation of Palestinian art,
the advancement of Palestinian art and the creation of a
professional continuous exhibition, in addition to being a source
for Palestinian art knowledge.
The idea of Palestinian Art Court – Al Hoash came out of recognition
for the true need of a center concerned with enhancing the cultural
status in Jerusalem, especially on the level of visual and plastic
arts. Palestinian Art Court – Al Hoash came to fulfill this need and
to become a home institution for the artists and their artworks. It
aims to establish a museum that attracts artists, art enthusiasts,
art students and tourists, and to provide for each of them in their
own interest of artworks, art knowledge and cultural entertainment.
In addition, this organization would become the bridge that connects
the cultural art movement in Jerusalem with the Palestinian cities,
the Arab countries and the rest of the world.
The first exhibited works of art in the national gallery shall be
comprised of the collection of Mazen and Yvette Qupty. Mr. Mazen
Qupty, attorney, art admirer and art collector is the initiator in
the creation of this organization, and he intends to put his own art
collection under the custody of the organization. This precious
collection consists of over 150 pieces of art works for 30 artists,
collected over 20 years and spanning 8 decades of art work. This
collection shall form the main and first collection of the gallery,
and Palestinian Art Court – Al Hoash shall work on collecting more
Palestinian art works and preserving it.
Palestinian Art Court – Al Hoash's internal structure consists of an
active Board of Directors that are elected annually and a General
Assembly.
The Board of Trustees consists of various Palestinian personalities
in the West Bank/Gaza and the Diaspora who role is vital to Al
Hoash.
Al Hoash staff currently employs one project coordinator, Soula
Kreitem who is funded through the generosity of the UNDP program UNV.
As of the beginning of next year, a well known Palestinian curator
Salwa Mikdadi will join the Al Hoash team as a consultant to bring
about structural organization and to share her vast experience with
Al Hoash. Ms. Mikdadi will also be sponsored by the UNDP through the
TOKTEN programme.
