Welcome to the History Center!

Welcome to the Senator John Heinz History Center, Pennsylvania's largest history museum.

Operating in association with the Smithsonian Institution, the History Center features a number of travelling and permanent exhibitions, such as the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, a dynamic museum-within-a-museum, exciting upcoming exhibitions like Pittsburgh Steelers 75th Anniversary: Treasures from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and
Clash of Empires: The British, French & Indian War, 1754-1763, and much more.

At the History Center, you can step inside a 1790s log cabin, discover how immigrants shaped this region, uncover the myths of the Underground Railroad, experience the thrill of our unmatched sports legacy and climb aboard a 1940s Pittsburgh trolley. The History Center brings more than 250 years of Western Pennsylvania to life!

Be sure to visit our new History Center E-Store, featuring a variety of Pittsburgh-themed gifts. From books and clothing, to posters and jewelry, we're your one-stop Pittsburgh shop!

KQV radio's "History Minutes," recorded by Andy Masich, are now available online! These entertaining bits of history air weekly on KQV and celebrate 250 years of Pittsburgh innovations, from the Big Mac to Bingo. Check them out!
