Leach and the Leach Pottery |

Bernard Leach
(1897-1979) was one of the founding fathers of the Studio Pottery movement, who
originally started the Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Besides individual work by Bernard and other potters, who worked
at the Leach Pottery, the pottery also produced a range of "Standard
Ware". The production of this was started in the late 1930's and all
members of the pottery, including Bernard, helped in its production. Standard
Ware continued to be made until Bernard's death but the heyday of the range
was the 1950's and 1960's when there was around 100 different items
available. Items from the range are usually available at the Harlequin Gallery. The future of the pottery has been secured and, although
currently closed, work is ongoing before it reopens as a museum, learning
resource and working pottery once again. An exhibition of vintage work from St. Ives begins
at the gallery on Sunday 9th September 2007. This will include individual
pots made by Bernard Leach and others that will be previewed here from July.
