Squid proxy sever for Redhat 9.0

You have to configure squid.conf file from /etc/squid/ directory. Configuration manual could be downloaded from http://www.squid-cache.org . You have to set your visible_hostname first to get squid in running mode. Contact me at elwinboch@hotmail.com for any further help needed.

if your familiar with squid to a certain degree, you could try making a simple squid redirector in perl to block websites you dont want.. squidguard is simpler to use, but may lack features you may want .

After you have Squid working as a proxy, search for a program called SquidGuard. Untar it and read the install documentation.

how to restrict website in squid proxy

download squid from www.squid-cache.org

tar xvfz squid"your version".tar.gz
cd squid"your version"
./configure
make
make install
squid -Z
squid -N (to verify squid is working)

i would recommend you download all those applications and build them first ..

sendmail and squid can be downloaded from various mirror sites.
Read the INSTALL files and build the source.

./configure
make
make install

you may need to add options to the configure depending on the features you need. Once you have installed the programs, reply this post and we will help you configure the services.
