  Support: Java Tools

Java offers a broad new range of opportunities for you to open new markets with highly functional, platform-independent applets and applications. These Java tools, from IBM and other companies, enhance the richness of what you can create as well as saving valuable development time. We invite you to take advantage of them.

Java Tools from IBM

VisualAge for Java
Using this new, comprehensive suite, you can create Java applets and applications with access to a variety of IBM products, including DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ-Series and SOM. VisualAge tools let you create applications without writing source code, and custom source code can be written using a graphical integrated development environment (IDE).

VisualAge PartPaks
VisualAge PartPaks are reusable software components that enable developers to rapidly build customized, high-quality, 100% Pure Java business applications.

Shareable Frameworks
Shareable Frameworks (San Francisco Project) are sets of reusable, cross-platform, object oriented business application frameworks specially designed for distributed, network computing environments. These frameworks contain the basic application structure that programmers previously needed to develop independently.

Lotus BeanMachine
Lotus BeanMachine puts the power of Java into the hands of non-programmers. The tool itself is completely written in Java, offering a wizard-based graphical user interface that allows you to build Java applets without typing even a single line of Java code.

VisualAge WebRunner Toolkit
The WebRunner Toolkit is designed for developers who want to create portable, high-performance Web applications from standard components. Components within the toolkit enable you to quickly build JavaBeans or use an existing collection of JavaBeans, convert ActiveX(TM) components to JavaBeans, and create Web server applications with ease.

Java Development Kits for AIX, AS/400 and OS/2
Development kits for creating and testing Java applets and applications on some of IBM's most popular business platforms are available from the IBM Centre for Java Development in Hursley, England. To access the download pages you'll first need to register.

CICS Gateway for Java
The IBM CICS Gateway for Java brings state-of-the-art, open, easy, access to CICS from any Java-enabled Web client, such as Netscape Navigator or a network computer. Because the Gateway is itself written in Java, it can run on any server platform that is Java-enabled and supports the CICS Client interfaces.

Aglets Workbench
Aglets Workbench is a first-of-its-kind visual environment for building network-based applications that use mobile agents to search for, access, and manage corporate data and other information. Its visual builder allows you to quickly compose personalized agents that can roam the Internet.

Taligent Java Frameworks Demos
Taligent has developed an integrated set of object-oriented frameworks in Java that support the creation of international software, providing a standard API that makes handling the requirements of different countries and languages transparent to developers.

NetRexx Tools
A new programming language that blends the easy-to-learn syntax of Rexx with the robustness and portability of Java. The NetRexx compiler first translates the NetRexx source code into Java source code; a Java compiler is then used to generate the Java bytecodes (class files) for execution. NetRexx classes and Java classes are entirely equivalent -- NetRexx can use any Java class, and vice versa.

Browse an overview of the NetREXX language or download the reference implementation for NetREXX 1.00.

Third Party Tools for Java
DimensionX Liquid Motion
Liquid Motion lets non-programmers and graphic artists rapidly generate 2D animations with audio without writing Java code.

Rogue Wave
Rogue Wave's reusable, cross-platform software parts and tools simplify application development in distributed, heterogeneous computing environments.

JetConnect by XDB Systems
JetConnect provides a DBMS-independent solution for database access from Java applications and applets. A series of class libraries and drivers, JetConnect allows instant access between Java and any DBMS compatible with ODBC/JDBC standard for database connectivity.

JetExpress by XDB Systems
JetExpress provides a high-speed bridge between the Java environment and the corporate information resources. With its facilities for optimizing DB2 access in a high integrity environment, JetExpress offers a means by which Web-based applications can safely access enterprise data.
