Fifty years of desorption ionization of nonvolatile compounds
Abstract
Progression of mass spectrometry in the analysis of nonvolatile compounds over the past 50 years. Highlights of 50 years of mechanistic studies related to conversion of non-volatile compounds to gas-phase ions. Historical discussion of the desorption methods FD, PD, FAB, LD, MALDI, DESI, and MAI. Discussion of potential role of charged droplets in FD, EHD, ESI, PD, MALDI, LSI, and MAI.
