- Cult Classic: It's no Dungeons & Dragons or even Pathfinder in terms of popularity, but the game still has a sizeable playerbase that's very devoted to it. Look no further than the success of its Celebration Edition + Bestiary Kickstarter
: Need Games set a €20,000 goal for it. They met that goal in only two minutes! And all the initial stretch goals afterwards were met in the same day as well, with a total of roughly €500,000 raised on the first day, out of 23 days. One week later and they raised €999,999 to meet every single stretch goal, with 16 days still left to go. By the end, it had raised €1,395,565, which is almost 70 times the intended goal. - Friendly Fandoms:
- There is a noticeable crossover between the Fabula Ultima and BREAK!! fandoms, helped by the fact that both are Tabletop RPGs that draw inspiration from Eastern RPG video games.
- Also the fandoms for Fabula Ultima and Ryuutama, since the creator himself is a Ryuutama player who created homebrew for the game in the past and Ryuutama served as one of the inspirations for Fabula Ultima.
- Game-Breaker:
- Weaponmasters get a skill called Counterattack. If an enemy rolls an even number on their attack roll against them, whether it was a hit or a miss, the player can make a free strike back in retaliation, treating the High Roll as 0 for the attack. While you may do very little damage with it at first, it still translates to a 50% chance at a free attack every time that you're hit. But it can really snowball in lethality as you stack up ways to boost your flat mod to damage (Fury's Adrenaline to boost damage in Crisis, Powerful Strike for a straight boost, etc.), by which point the HR counting as 0 isn't that much of a drawback anymore. Combine all this with a way to exploit elemental vulnerabilities, and attacking you is practically a death sentence for the enemy.
- From a defensive standpoint, the Guardian's Defensive Mastery skill can become very powerful with enough investment: up to -5 damage from 'any'' kind of source of damage. While this may not sound like much on paper, the way damage scales in this game makes it incredibly impactful, especially after you factor in any kind of elemental resistance or other abilities or spells from the party to support that passive reduction.
