- Accidental Aesop: Martin ends up having to share his boat with a band of guerillas because he took it upon himself to toss some guns overboard the guerillas gave to Ron as a down payment for the ride and is later defenseless when he and his family are attacked by Ruthless Modern Pirates (which is precisely why they paid Ron in guns). Another unexpected, yet very good reason for why you never touch a gun that isn't yours.

- Tear Jerker: Ben telling Captain Ron that he is a better man than his father, because he keeps succeeding. The look on Ron's face as he realizes he came between father and son is just awful.Ben: (innocently) Dad, he tries but he really screws things up, not like you.Caroline: Hey, lighten up! You know, Dad does the best he can. It's not his fault...
