Toca Life: Stories (Western Animation)
L-R: Nari, Zeke, Rita, and Leon
Toca Life Stories is an Animated Adaptation of the Toca Life video games. It is about Nari, Zeke, Rita, and Leon, and their adventures on OK Street. It has some fantastical elements, but is for the most part a Slice of Life show.

The first episode, "Zeke Ahead Of The Game", premiered on February 21st, 2020, and the last episode, "Sad Leon", premiered on September 30th, 2022.

The whole series can be watched on the official Toca Boca YouTube channel.

Toca Life Stories contains examples of:

  • Accidental Celebrity: Paulina’s photographs turn Leon into an influencer, with the residents of OK Street copying each new color of his hair dye, much to Leon’s distress.
  • Air-Vent Passageway:
    • In “Zeke Ahead Of The Game” Rita and Nari sneak through the vents to figure out what Zeke is up to, which they fall out of when Rob gets caught in the pull chain of the ceiling fan, causing the ceiling to break.
    • In “Class Pet” Zeke hides in Rita’s vents to spy on how she is taking care of Cheesecake.
  • Amateur Film-Making Plot: "Action Detective" Has the gang filming a noir movie directed by Zeke, with Rita as the star.
  • Bizarro Universe: Let's see, besides the human characters, we get these little creatures called "crumpets" and we have Animate Inanimate Object characters like Silly Burger, on top of having some weird mashups like sloth-birds. Suffice enough to say, the Toca Life universe is way~ different than ours.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Everyone in the series has the same kind of eyes just like in the game.
  • "Brave the Ride" Plot: In “Hot Pepper Competition”, at the amusement park, Leon is too scared to go on any roller coasters. Even after braving the hot pepper competition, he decides he's not ready to go on any big rides yet, going on the kiddie coaster instead.
  • Brown Bag Mask: Consistently worn by Paper Bag Cat. Zeke and Nari also don Brown Bag Masks when trying to get closer to her.
  • Camera Fiend: Paulina is always snapping photos of something, and she even has a collection of photos of all her friends sleeping! (It’s not creepy you guys…)
  • Cardiovascular Love: In “Paper Bag Cat”, Zeke gets heart eyes while chasing Paper Bag Cat (They then fall off when he runs directly into the side of a dumpster), and later is surrounded by a cloud of hearts when he finally gets to pet her.
  • Circling Birdies:
    • When Rita is launched through a building by a trampoline in “Awktobox”, she gets little bird-sloths circling her head.
    • Zeke has miniature Paper Bag Cats spinning around his head when he runs face-first into a dumpster in “Paper Bag Cat”
    • In “Goodbye Croquet”, when Zeke is crushed under a pile of garbage, bird-sloths spin around his head.
    • When Rita knocks over a passing sloth while skating by in “So Many Sloths”, it gets little bird-Ritas floating around its head.
  • Costume-Test Montage: In “Secret Horse” The gang hangs out in the bathroom trying to find the right disguise to sneak a horse into school. The first is a postman costume, the second is a dog costume, the third is a corn costume, and the final is a normal jean jacket and glasses.
  • Daydream Surprise: The episode “Deli Helpers” opens with a daydream of Bo’s, where he visits the Omelette Islands. He's snapped out of it by the sound of the automatic door.
  • Disappeared Dad: Rita's Yard Sale mentioned that Rita's dad passed away. From what's said about Rita's dad, he was a Supreme Chef and that he, apparently, passed away rather recently (to that episode). There's some mild drama where Rita accidentally sells Silly Burger her parents' anniversary platter.
  • Dog Walks You: In “Helpful Rita”, Rita and Zeke tie the dog’s leashes around themselves, so when the dogs see Houdini, they get dragged all the way down the street to Leon’s house.
  • Down in the Dumps: The episodes "Trash Day With The Crumpets" and "Goodbye Croquet" happen at the junkyard.
  • Dramatic Shattering: When Rita gets brainwashed by Silly Burger's ketchup, her eyes going white is accompanied by the sound of glass breaking.
  • Dream Episode: The episode “Inside Your Head” is all about what the gang daydreams about in class.
    • Rita dreams of being a detective finding stolen treasures and interrogating suspects.
    • Zeke dreams of being a famous fashion designer for llamas.
    • Leon dreams about being a famous DJ and stopping one of his fans from being mugged with a kick to the face.
    • Nari dreams about being a bird, she flies to the moon (that is also Croquet) and takes a nap there.
  • Dream Intro: “Deli Helpers” begins with a dream sequence of Bo's where he's on vacation at the Omelette Islands, before Rita enters the deli and he wakes up from the sound of the door.
  • Everyone Knew Already: In “Zeke Ahead Of The Game”, Zeke acts like having a struggling Hampstergram page was a huge secret of his that no one can know, but Leon is not shocked in the slightest.
Zeke: Yes, now you know... Bob and Rob have a struggling Hampstergram page.
    Leon: Dude. I already knew.
    Zeke: What?!
Leon: You're not as secret as you think you are, you know?
  • Four-Fingered Hands: All humans in the series have these hands.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: In “Leon Out Of His Shell”, Rita tickles Leon to get him to reveal what he is hiding.
  • Garage Band: In “Disco Dad” the gang forms a band called “The Crispy Llamas”, in Leon’s garage: Zeke plays the tambourine, Leon plays the kazoo (despite being a DJ), Nari “sings”, and Rita drums on a bucket.
  • Left the Background Music On: Leon interrupts the hair-dying montage in “Leon The Influencer” complaining that the music Zeke is playing is stressing him out.
  • Love Letter: At Nora’s advice, Leon tries expressing his feelings for Leon in the form of a letter. Rita throws it in the trash without looking, dismissing letter-writing as for grandmas, and tells Leon to stop acting so weird. But when he leaves to get more arcade tokens, she pulls it out of the trash and reads it, blushing. She later grabs his hand when running over to the pinball machine, suggesting she reciprocates his feelings.
  • Missing Mom: Corin is Leon's stepmother, according to Blue Collar Leon
  • New Job Episode: Upon learning that his older brother Oscar has a job and won't be able to play games with him as much anymore, Leon asks Corin to take him to work as her assistant at her job as a plumber. He’s terrible at it, but when he has to turn off the pump of a haywire water bouncer, he imagines it as the boss fight in the video game he was playing, which allows him to succeed. He realizes that having a job is harder than he thought, and quits on the spot.
  • Not-So-Imaginary Friend: Croquet is Nari’s imaginary friend, and has some strange abilities, such as Voluntary Shapeshifting and super-sticky spit which Nari uses to hang upside down. The first time Croquet does something that can’t be dismissed as an active imagination on Nari’s part is in “Croquet Cook Off”, when Nari uses Croquet as a cooking utensil, and even takes ingredients from their mouth (If they’re not real, where did the doll shoe come from?). In “Goodbye Croquet”, Zeke gains the ability to see Croquet after getting crushed under a pile of garbage.
  • Outside Ride: When Zeke and Nari observe the Crumpets jumping into the garbage truck, they grab onto the handles at the back to follow it. Despite the truck’s rampant speeding, they manage to hang on to get to the Crumpet’s secret hideout at the dump.
  • Performance Anxiety: Leon does not like showing off his DJ skills, because he feels like the audience is judging him.
  • Secret Pet Plot: When Zeke’s parents won’t let him keep the horse he had agreed to pet-sit at home, the gang helps Zeke sneak it into school by disguising it as a student.
  • Ship Tease: Leon has an obvious crush on Rita, and the ship is frequently teased.
Nari: It’s too bright in here!
Leon: Yeah! Some mood lighting would be nice! Maybe some candles?
Rita: Why are you still holding my hand?
    Leon: Hahaha… uh, sorry.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A brief shot in "Zeke Ahead Of The Game" shows Rob and Bob dressed as Street Fighter characters
    • When Zeke asks Noodle Ned if he can take a cute video of him, Zeke refers to him as “Mr. Noodle”.
  • Sick Episode: In “Sad Leon”, Leon is badly sick, bundled up in a Illness Blanket and constantly blowing his nose, so Zeke decides that the best way to cheer him up is to take him to the beach to watch them release dolphins. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: The first shot in the “Zeke Ahead Of The Game” montage of Rob & Bob videos is Rob and Bob having a romantic candlelit spaghetti dinner, with one strand in both of their mouths. They immediately start to fight over it, though, so it’s not very romantic.
  • Stealth Pun: After he humiliates himself in front of the Silly Buns drive-through, Leon hides inside his hat and rolls off. In other words, he clams up.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: In "Silly Burger's Delicious Ketchup", after Rita gets a taste of the aforementioned ketchup, she goes crazy and pursues Silly Burger across town, even somehow managing to jump onto the roof of a speeding bus.
  • Transformation Sequence: Parodied in “Zeke Ahead of the Game”. When Zeke pulls out a mini motorcycle, he goes into a transformation sequence, but nothing changes when he’s done.
  • Travel Montage: The montage in “Road Trip To Paradise” shows Rita and her mom travelling to the desert, the jungle, and the Omelette Islands before watching the sunset on a dock, after which it is revealed that this was all in their imaginations, and they never left the house.
  • Writer's Block: In “Helpful Rita”, Nari is having trouble writing a poem, before she gets some inspiration if the form of one of the dogs Zeke is walking.
Nari: How about "The end is nigh"? Ugh! It’s like it’s taunting me!
    Rita: What was that?
Nari: MY POEM! You said you’d help!
Rita: Oh, yeah! Ummmmm… How about, uh… he wears a bow tie!
