Bluechair
is a gag-a-day webcomic by Shen. It was published on Webtoon from June 30, 2014 until April 17, 2026, and updated twice a week.
It has similarities in tone and content to Shen's other series Shen Comix, such as featuring his Author Avatar and the personification of life as characters. There are also some characters that are exclusive to Bluechair.
Contains examples of:
- Bad Moon Rising: In "Difficulty Selection", one of the features of the Nightmare setting is that "every night is a red moon night".
- Brutal Honesty: A common gag. Of note is this comic, where Shen tells the audience that if you wish reeeaaaallly hard, and you WORK FOR IT UNTIL YOUR BLOOD AND TEARS RUN IN MIGHTY RIVERS, all your dreams can come true.
- Epic Fail: Shen's attempts at drawing a horse from memory:
- Attempt 1 is a simple doodle of a four-legged creature with a vaguely horse-like tail and a human-like head and face.
- Attempt 2 is a wobbly doodle of a creature with four wobbly legs, a circle for a head, and a dog-like nose.
- Attempt 3 somewhat resembles a four-legged octopus with a horse tail and mane.
- Attempt 4 is a gray oblong shape with a human-like face on it and four blue legs.
- Attempt 5 is a realistically drawn dog.
- Evil Doppelgänger: Shen goes on a journey to find himself. Instead, he finds a slightly bizarre version of himself from another universe. Behold, Shem.
- Fastball Special: Subverted in "Shen & Life vs. Shem". Life tosses Shen at Shem in what is seemingly an attack on Shem, but Shen goes sailing over Shem's head and off a cliff. Life and Shem then high five.
- Spot the Imposter: Shen and David were in a situation at some point where Shen had to figure out who to shoot between David and a fake, but Shen couldn't identify the fake despite it just being a crudely constructed dummy, which gave David trust issues.
- Uncanny Valley: Shem, a slightly bizarre version of Shen, is intentionally drawn to look out of place in the cartoony world of Bluechair. He's also a shapeshifter with abnormally many teeth, that also helps.
- Villain Team-Up: Two of Shen's adversaries, Shem and Life, end up teaming up against him in "Shen & Life vs. Shem".
