Tank Fish (Web Video)

Tank Fish is a YouTube channel focused on Roblox games. Initially starting as a regular let's-player dedicated to content for Just Plane Crazy, Tank expanded into his current model of heavily-edited creative summaries and playthroughs in 2019. Because of his editing style, his videos are rife with consternation, Tank's suffering, the occasional intentional research mistake, Rapid-Fire Comedy, and the deranged antics of him and his friends, all within the realms of each game he covers.

Hi, I'm Tank Fish, and all my time in the world is gone.

  • Adaptational Heroism: Ziggzagged with Arcane Odyssey's Lord Elius. On one hand, this version has no intention of joining the Order of Aesir, unlike his in-game counterpart, and lets players use his skyships for free. On the other hand, he only does so to launder money, and when Tank and Altrax crash one too many...
Lord Elius: Now I shall sell your organs... to pay for my insurance!
  • Anachronism Stew:
    • Tank's team decide to build a Taco Bell during the Napoleonic Wars while playing Blood and Iron.
    • Someone ask the Chaos Legion why are they using WW2 tactics while playing Trenches, a Roblox game based on WW1. Tank claims that they are in World War 1.5.
  • And the Rest: Tank starts naming all the categories for Stand abilities in Your Bizarre Adventure, but after naming 13 of them, he get fed up with the number of Stands categories. Tank then declares that category #14 is everything else.
  • invoked Anti-Climax Boss: Rather than fighting General Argos, Tank exploits the fact that he can enter the boss' spawn arena without triggering his spawn to set up explosives. This results in him one-shotting the boss with ease.
  • Artifact Name: While playing Dead Ahead, Tank mentions that their battleship AIN-Sinkable I (pronounced unsinkable one) got sunk in the previous game. The ship's successor, AIN-Sinkable II, also got sunk.
  • Art Shift: While most of the time videos use simplistic effects and gifs in editing, some of them also feature fully made and rendered 3D animation.
  • Assassination Attempt: At the end of "Roblox Mafia City", the Chaos Legion join a serious roleplay server to assassinate the president. They succeeded, but they also got banned from the Roblox experience because the admin mistakely thought they were hacking.
  • A-Team Firing:
    • Lampshaded any time the Chaos Legion volley fires but fail to hit anything.
    • Tank's Blood & Iron video starts with a scripted segment where he orders his 30-men squad to fire their muskets simultaneously on his command. Despite this, it is stated that they didn't hit anyone.
  • Ax-Crazy: A recurring theme with his associate, vex, is that he's absolutely insane, feral, and has an unquenchable bloodlust that usually results in hundreds dead.
  • Back-Alley Doctor: During "Roblox Mafia City", one doctor point out the cops will revoke their medical license because of the medical malpractice the group been doing. Tank counters that the police "can't take away [their] medical license if [they] don't have one".
  • Badge Gag: The intro for "NOBODY WILL HEAR YOU SCREAM" has Tank admit that he deceived his employer with a fake boating license. He shows this license on-screen, revealing that it's a Bikini Bottom Driver License with the signature written as "Skibidi Toilet".
  • Bait-and-Switch: Tank decides to pranks Brits on Discord by showing them a mirrored Union Jack and asking them if it is their flag. They usually don't notice that the flag been mirrored. Subverted when Tank pranks Prostar; Prostar believes that he was showed an altered flag, when it was actually the original.
  • Batter Up!: During the raid on Eddie's house in Da Hood, one soldier states he found a weapon: a baseball bat. Eddie argues that the bat is not meant to be a weapon, so the soldier decides to hit Eddie with the bat to prove otherwise.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: During the events of Creating Inescapable Maximum Security Prisons In Roblox, Tank and the Crime Uproot Ministry encounter a player who uses scripts to open all the doors in the prison and modify his weapons. Tank responds by sending in a group of players that also use scripts to fly and modify their weapons, killing the player until they leave in frustration.
Tank: If someone hack, we simply retaliate by hacking with more people.
  • Better by a Different Name: His summary video on All Star Tower Defense describes the game as a generic Tower Defense. To prove this, he modifies the Roblox Graphics Quality setting while playing ASTD. When he sets it from 1 to 5, the game transforms into Bloons TD 6. Then he sets it to 10, which transforms the game again into Arknights.
  • Black Comedy: Expect a lot of this kind of comedy. Ranging from his group basically enacting Police Brutality on servers to just unhinged offensive jokes in general, there's quite a lot of offensive humor in his videos.
  • Bowdlerize:
    • Due to YouTube's restrictions and risks of demonetization, there are some moments of Tank's videos that are blurred out, usually of potentially offensive real life footage.
    • After online backlash, the "nuke codes" (six-digit identifiers for hentai Doujinshi on certain websites) at the end of several videos would be blurred out, and promptly stopped being included.
    • A Running Gag in the Airship Assault video has the Chaos Legion initially calling the enemy team "greeners", before ultimately deciding to repeatedly call the enemy forces and occasionally themselves "beaners," a slur for Hispanic people. This was quickly replaced with a Censored for Comedy gag shortly after its upload.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Whenever someone makes a British joke or pretends to be British, the speaker will imitate a posh British accent.
  • Call That a Formation?: While playing Blood & Iron, Tank attempts to get his army to make a square formation. Instead, they make a "whatever the phak shape this is" formation. They later lose the battle because the formation got broken.
  • Camping Episode: The title card for Tank's Trenches video jokingly refers to itself as a camping episode. At the beginning of the game, Tank states that the Chaos Legion's campsite is the trenches, and he has brought camping supplies (read: war equipment).
  • Chase Scene: During the farmland battle in the Blood & Iron video, the last member of the French team fled from the English on his horse. Despite the English's attempts to catch him (along with failing to votekick him), he outran the enemy for long enough that the game ended the battle in a draw.
  • Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys: In several of Tank Fish's videos, it is joked that the French army's favorite tactic is to retreat from battle.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Used as a threat while interrogating a guard at Fort Talos during his Arcane Odyssey video:
Morden: Tell us about the order.
    Ravenna Guard: Err... No.
Morden: Tell us, or we'll beat you up.
    Ravenna Guard: No.
Tank: I'll force you to watch Morbius.
Ravenna Guard: They went that way.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: How Tank's feels after killing multiple cops to keep a stolen suitcase in Your Bizzare Adventure's first quest, only for Boungiorno Brovanna to tell him to return said suitcase back to its owner.
Tank: THEN WHY DID I KILL THOSE FIVE COPS FOR THEN!? I GOT MURDER CHARGE FOR NOTHING!
  • Courtroom Antics: Tank's Cook Burgers playthrough ends with him and his friends put on trial for the crimes they committed during the video, only to get released when Saul Goodman reasons with the judge through Insane Troll Logic.
  • Crazy-Prepared: During Tank's Arcane Odyssey video, Tank and Ron need to level up to level 40 to continue a quest. A few days later, Tank is level 40, while Ron is 78. Tank later performs this trope as well, when a later quest needs him to be at level 75 to continue it, Tank levels up to 94.
  • Denser and Wackier: His second Deepwoken video has many more jokes and unhinged acts by him and his friends than the first. As he mentions early on, he covers most of it by replacing his previous character JoTalo with "JoTalo, but quirkier."
  • Department of Redundancy Department: In "A Dusty Trip In A Nutshell", Tank summarizes Nevada as a place with lots of sands, crackheads, sands, nuclear waste, sands, more crackheads, more sands, and most importantly, sands.
  • Do Not Try This at Home: Many of the games Tank covers are notoriously difficult, grindy, stagnant, and/or subject to Gameplay Derailmentinvoked, so he sometimes advises the viewer not to go down the same path he frequently goes down when making his videos.
  • Eject the Loser: In both "Roblox's Got No Talent" episodes, the game show has multiple creative methods to eject auditionees from the stage, no matter if they win or lose.
    • jeffyeaold is shot by a giant turret.
    • Yavirasta2106 is killed by Chilly performing a Suicide Attack with a grenade.
    • AdamZNC and THEPROSTARKBEATLEPRO both fall through a Trap Door into the Pit of Hell.
    • WILL_BILL666 is kidnapped by Chilly and forced into a Free Candy van.
    • Mei is grabbed by a tentacle and pulled through a portal to Brazil.
    • Tappy gets blasted by an orbital laser.
    • Gaisan is instructed to jump into a burning dumpster. The dumpster's contents are then picked up by a dump truck.
  • Ending Memorial Service: At the end of the Da Hood video, the CUM hosts a funeral for Officer Clegane after he died during gameplay. Tank delivers an eulogy about Clegane, but it hilariously gets interrupted by Clegane showing up even though he's supposed to be dead. Clegane gets killed by a CUM soldier to cover up the continuity error, and Tank finishes his eulogy.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Near the beginning of The Mimic: Friendship Is Temporary, Dark is unable to see anything. The reason is because he is looking straight up into darkness, and continues to do so until he is told to look down.
  • Fantastic Racism: Discussed and Played for Laughs in "The Home Depot Invasion" when it's jokingly suggested that the Home Depot crew should be racist to Lowe's shoppers.
"We start being racist to Lowe's shoppers."
Tank: "What's Lowes? Never heard of it."
  • Fun with Acronyms: The Crime Uproot Ministry, deployed whenever a mass spike of crime occurs.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Downplayed. During Tank's Airship Assault video, Tank tries getting his team to end a round as fast as possible by firing as many rockets as they can at the ship's sides. They succeed, and end the round quickly enough that they don't receive end-of-round XP.
  • Griefer: Tank tends to perform this alongside his friends and the Chaos Legion at times, with his most viewed video of this type being his video on Da Hood where he and the Chaos Legion caused pure chaos for those online.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": Upon hearing the word seaman, Tank and his friends let out a laugh.
  • Insult of Endearment: Tank occasionally calls Chilly one of The Backrooms' entities in his second Apeirophobia video, owing to his avatar's literal black skin.
  • I Have a Family: Exaggerated when DarkAltrax begs Tank not to kill him in Gas Station Simulator.
DarkAltrax: NOOO! NOOOO! I'LL DO ANYTHING, PLEASE! I have three kids, and two cousins lynching off those very kids as well. And I just got five grandkids just now. Please, please, please.
  • Insurance Fraud: The C.U.M. announces that they are going to steal Eddie's insurance money after they burn down his new house.
  • Kill Sat: Tank fires an orbital laser at one of the contestants in ROBLOX'S GOT NO TALENT 2.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: During his Space Wars video, Tank demands the Chaos Legion to use the landing pads outside the base hangar when organizing spacecraft deployments so they wouldn't have a repeat of "the incident." Just as a Legionnaire tells him "we do not talk about the incident", the video immediately cuts to "the incident", where a number of Legion spacecraft crashed into the hangar before they could even leave it.
  • LOL, 69: In "Roblox Mafia City", Tank attempts to make his callsign 6969. The game however censors that number, so he makes it 6090 instead.
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: "Hi, I'm Tank Fish, and (insert undesirable situation related to the game being covered here.)"
  • Malicious Misnaming: Despite Eddie reiterating his name on multiple occasions, the CUM seem to ignore him and call him Lebowski anyway.
  • Medium Blending: The Airship Assault video has a brief intro segment where the titular airship crashes into the Roblox HQ map. The sequence is actually rendered in Teardown instead of Roblox.
  • Mondegreen Gag: As a result of mishearing Tank in the Combat Warriors video, the Chaos Legion hears something... very different.
    "You guys ready for raid?"
    "Wait, rape?"
    "No, raid-"
(Cue the Chaos Legion wildly chanting "rape")
  • Mundane Solution: During his Space Wars video, the enemy team deploys mines hidden in an asteroid field for Tank's team's ships to run into. His solution?
    Tank: We go around.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: In Tank's second Deepwoken video, while controlling the wheel of a ship, Tank starting singing The Gideshu March. He gets interrupted when someone warns him of the large field of spikes they are going to crash into.
  • Nepotism: While playing Blood & Iron and Guts & Blackpowder, jokes were made how officers inherited the position from their father, usually against their will.
Officer: Bro I got my officer position as a birthday present. I didn't sign up for this shit.
Tank: Yeah, me too to be honest.
  • No Kill like Overkill: This exchange during Tank's Airship Assault video.
Tank: There's a lot of enemies on that right platform.
Gronk: Roger that, erasing that right platform.
(Gronk fires several rockets at the platform, killing everyone on it.)
  • Not What It Looks Like: During the raid on Eddie's house, the CUM finds what they believe to be heroin, cocaine, and crystal meth in the kitchen. Eddie has to point out that those are actually sugar, flour and rock salt. It is implied that the CUM is making these misconceptions to frame Eddie.
  • Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: Chaser's Blood Magic is portrayed as simply an excess of blood spraying all over the place. He claims it's period blood as a consequence of his powers, but it's implied he just has some form of venereal disease and can't be bothered to tell the difference.
Chaser: You cannot understand my pain! It hurts when I fucking pee!
  • Playful Hacker: Tank's SS division ends up as this, using scripts to mess with players in video games, and only used when another player using scripts is encountered.
  • Police Brutality: Played for laughs. In several videos, Tank and the Chaos Legion play as police who are all too willing to enact violence for the sake of it.
  • Punny Name: Tank's character name in Arcane Odyssey is "Robbin Banks", while Ron's name is "Aime Black."
  • Queer People Are Funny: This exchange during Tank's Airship Assault video:
Unnamed Pilot 1: Go fuck that guy's mom.
Unnamed Pilot 2: Roger, on my way to fuck that guy's mom. MAYDAY! MAYDAY! THIS KID GOT 2 DADS!
  • Roadside Surgery: After deliberately injuring a player to scam them with medical bills in "Roblox Mafia City", Tank and friends decide to start an operation on-scene with a chainsaw and a power drill. The player responds to this by leaving the game.
  • Running Gag:
  • Shoot the Medic First: Tank makes jokes about killing medics since it's considered a war crime in real life. During his Trenches video, Tank instinctively fires at one he spotted, even though the medic was his teammate.
  • Shout-Out: His video on DOORS (Roblox) has him constantly comparing Rush to A-Train from The Boys (2019), ranging from having AwayFloated getting ran over reference the memes of A-Train running over someone (Even having Imagine Dragons' Bones playing), and also considering Ambush as Rush but on Compound V.
  • Shot at Dawn: The Chaos Legion has performed this on multiple occasions, mainly to execute traitors.
  • Shown Their Work: The Sol's RNG video has an extended segment of Tank getting increasingly angry at the realization that the numbers and formulae allegedly used to govern the game's drop tables do not obey the mathematical rules of probability, meaning that the in-game odds given are highly inaccurate. As he proves in said rant, this is an entirely-accurate assessment.
  • Skewed Priorities: Tank Fish's reaction upon seeing Primadon?
Tank: Oh my god! This music was copyrighted! note
  • Spoofed with Their Own Words: Tank mentions that Stands in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are called that because they stand beside their user in his Your Bizarre Adventure summary. He then has to clarify that the previous sentence wasn't a bit and Araki actually stated this himself, before commenting on how it doesn't really work with a lot of the later Stands.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: Mentioned several times, though it's usually treated as a So Unfunny, It's Funny joke.
  • Suicide as Comedy:
    • In Roblox Anime Fighters Simulator In A Nutshell, Tank takes out a revolver and points it to his chin because Roblox got disconnected from the internet.
    • His video on Gas Station Simulator has several of the employees working with Tank form a suicide pact via leaping off the roof after being mistreated by him, all Played for Laughs as Tank and his friends are left laughing their asses off from the absurdity of witnessing a suicide pact in a Roblox game of all places.
  • Take That!:
    • Refers to the Second Layer in Deepwoken as Quebec, Canada.
    • Tank notes a profound dislike for Adopt Me! and certain simulator-type games, only really bothering to engage with them for content.
  • Taking You with Me: During a game of Dead Ahead, Jerry crashes his plane into the ground, killing 2 enemy soldiers.
    Jerry: REMEMBER ME—!
  • Tempting Fate:
    • His second Deepwoken video has him mention an incident where one of his previous ships crashed and sank because he wasn't looking, and how he's determined to not, in his words, recreate the sinking of the RMS Titanic again. Then his guild sets sail to kill the Great Serpent, they get distracted when they break out into a sea shanty, and, well...
Altrax: Tank, Tank! In front of us! No, Tank! Don't recreate it!
(Tank pans his camera to reveal a massive set of spikes their ship is headed directly towards)
    Tank: Oh shit, Titanic!
    Altrax: Noooooooo!
(cue We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties screen)
    • Near the end of Tank's Arcane Odyssey video, he and Ron are crossing the ocean in a rowboat when a pirate dueling another decides to fire upon them. Cue this exchange:
Tank: Oh, bro, they just shot at us! We must fire back.
    Ron: We don't have cannons!
Tank: Don't worry about that, I've got you covered.
(Tank proceeds to toss a bunch of individual cannon balls into the ship, disintegrating it)
  • Who's on First??: During a game of Blood & Iron, Tank tells his army to "fire at will". This prompts one of the soldiers to ask "Who the hell is Will?"
  • Your Other Left: Tank's Dead Ahead video begins with him admitting that he can't differentiate which side of a ship is the port or starboard side. Later in the video, a sailor gets annoyed because he doesn't know which side is starboard. Even when Tank simply tells him to face right, he still gets confused ("MY RIGHT OR YOUR RIGHT?!").
