One Piece Is Hilarious is a series of comedic YouTube videos on the channel Mugiwara No Goofy. As the name implies, the series covers various arcs in the One Piece anime, usually by shifting the point of view to someone other than the Straw Hat Pirates (usually the arc's main antagonist or Original Character Jimmy Scoops) and imagining what Luffy and co.'s ridiculous actions must look like from their eyes.

• Absurd Phobia: Subvered. Crocodile's worst fear is "a magic fighting crackhead flying down from the sky on a giant bird", which sounds absurd, and would be in most cases. However, it describes Luffy teaming up with Pell perfectly, and the former kicks Crocodile's ass.
• Adaptational Goal Change:
  • In the anime, Commander Jonathan was willing to let the Straw Hats go because he only wanted to motivate his men and prove that the G-8 base was still important. In "G-8 is Hilarious", he wants them to escape so he doesn't have to file any reports and can keep all the gold he stole off their ship.
  • In canon, Luffy's reason for fighting anyone can usually be summarized as "They hurt/upset a friend of mine". In this series, more often than not, it's just because he enjoys fighting for the sake of fighting.
  • Unlike canon, where Kuma was at Thriller Bark to kill the Straw Hats, in this series, he's just trying to get Luffy (and maybe the others) into rehab for his drug addiction.
• Adaptational Wimp: Zigzagged with Sugar's Hobby Hobby fruit and its memory erasing effect, as whether she has that power depends on whatever can make for a more hilarious outcome. During Doflamingo's perspective of the Dressrosa arc, she can erase memories because it would be funny to have Doflamingo get jumped by a one-legged swordsman out of nowhere because the Warlord forgot they existed. In the follow-up video from Jimmy Scoops perspective, Jimmy keeps his memories of Nico Robin for the sake of a cowboy hat joke.
• Badass Bystander: Jimmy Scoops, an underling of Big News Morgans with all that entails. While not much of a fighter, Jimmy can get almost anywhere with Morgans' help, and this allows Jimmy to establish connections with many powerful people in the One Piece world, from higher ups in the World Government to multiple Warlords to the Straw Hat Pirates themselves. He's gotten caught up in nearly every major story arc and not only gets out alive with nothing but his wits, he often gets an incredible story to give Morgans in the process.
• Bait-and-Switch: While talking with the White Berets on Skypiea, Luffy starts going on a rant about God, claiming He never answered their prayers... because he was too busy drinking milk and cookies. Usopp immediately realizes Luffy thinks Santa is God.
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Invoked in-universe. Commander Jonathan believes that if the Straw Hats escape G-8 base, then the whole incident will be "just a weird thing that happened when a ship fell out of the sky." Which means he won't have to file any paperwork about the incident and, more importantly, he can keep the gold he stole off their ship.
• Cassandra Truth: Big News Morgans and later the marines don't believe Jimmy Scoops when he tells them about the actions of the Straw Hat Pirates.
• Catchphrase: Whenever someone tries to get Luffy to do something they want, there is a high chance he'll snap back with "Shut up, dummy!" (sometimes extended into "I'm gonna be King of The Pirates!")
• Combat Pragmatist: Doflamingo attempts to have his gang defy Mook Chivalry and gang up on the Straw Hats, insisting that they get backup instead of trying to take them in duels. Unfortunately for Doflamingo, none of them listen.
• Death by Adaptation: Unlike canon, Pell actually did die while carrying away Crocodile's bomb. The "Pell" seen afterwards is Pell's brother who assumed his identity to avoid his massive gambling debts.
• Description Cut: When Enel asks Zoro what prayer of his did he, as God, never grant, it cuts to a young Zoro tearfully praying to finally get a single win against Kuina. He even offers to never pick up a sword again if he wins. Present day Zoro very flatly insists "Nothing."
• Didn't Think This Through: Pell's brother assumed all his gambling debts at Crocodile's casino would be forgiven after the warlord was arrested. Those hearing it can't believe he thought that was how things worked.
• Disproportionate Reward: Giving Luffy any amount of food will make you a friend for life who will destroy your enemies (or anyone he thinks is your enemy). First seen when Jimmy buys Luffy a value meal from Wendy's, which results in Luffy later beating up a Marine who was trying to give Jimmy a parking ticket and declaring that Jimmy's enemies are his enemies as well now.
• Distracted by the Sexy: Jimmy Scoops will forget what he was talking about if he sees Nico Robin or mentions her, instead rambling about how attractive she is, especially if she's wearing a cowboy hat.
• Dumbass Has a Point: Luffy metaphorically rolls his eyes at Sanji's assumption Nami is religious, citing that it doesn't fit with her character at all. Sure enough, the times Sanji saw Nami going to church, she was actually planning on robbing the place.
• Entertainingly Wrong: Big News Morgans immediately and correctly figures out that the Tamate Box at Big Mom's party on Whole Cake Island was given to her by the Straw Hat Pirates and that there's some kind of trap involved, but assumes the bomb was deliberately planted by the group for the sake of some political agenda (in actuality, the Straw Hats did not know about the bomb, they intended the box as a gift, and thinking Luffy has a motivation more complicated than "eat food" and "punch things" is a huge mistake).
• Epic Fail: Jimmy Scoops somehow apparently has a history of leaving the lens cap on when trying to take photos despite using a snail as his camera.
• Even Evil Has Standards: Doflamingo happily enslaves an entire country, but he refuses to kill someone before they get to watch The Godfather.
• Flat "What": Doflamingo can only let out a dumbfounded "What." when he hears from Trebol that "Down in the underground toy factory, Pinocchio turned into Jesus and he freed the slaves!"^note  Ussop causing Sugar to faint, and being hailed as a hero for it.
• The Friend Nobody Likes: Eustass Kidd is portrayed as trying to insert himself into the group regularly with everyone just ignoring him. Eventually, Luffy actually asks if he's always like that only to be encouraged to keep ignoring him.
• Hidden Depths: During Luffy's confrontation with Doflamingo, the food and fighting obsessed captain reveals he has a deep appreciation of The Godfather, instantly understanding Doflamingo's motivations when the first movie is brought up as a comparison.
• Hypocritical Humor:
  • After landing on Skypiea, Nami points out they don't have enough Berry to pay the toll. Luffy immediately complains, claiming it's because Nami immediately goes to the nearest clothing store on each island they visit, only for Sanji to rebuke by pointing out Luffy is the first person to enter those stores each time. Luffy then immediately says he wants to go shopping.
  • On Punk Hazard, while Smoker is drilling the Straw Hats about their motives for stopping Caesar, Monkey "Captain Crackhead" D. Luffy (who minutes ago had just offered one of Caesar's imprisoned children some crack) is the one who vocalizes that he's against Caesar's drug operation before giving a speech about how drugs can ruin your life.
  • Zoro (who is embodying the "Minority Hunter" meme in this series) gives a speech during the Fishman Island arc decrying racism, much to everyone's confusion.
• In-Series Nickname: Most Straw Hats are given at least one humorous nickname that Mugiwara or people In-Universe tend to refer to them as:
  • Luffy:
    • In general: Some variation of "crackhead", such as "Captain Crackhead" or "The Magical Fighting Crackhead."
    • The inhabitants of Amazon Lily tend to think of him as "the man with stretchy balls"
  • Zoro: "Green Haired Samurai Who Wanted To Be A Pirate Hunter Before He Got Kicked Off The Force For Police Brutality."
  • Sanji: "The Pervert" (sometimes followed up with "Who Keeps His Hands In His Pockets.")
  • Nami: "The Thief Who Would Steal From Her Own Family Members."
  • Franky: "The Cyborg Who Never Wears Pants."
  • Usopp (specifically his "God" Usopp epitaph): "Pinocchio Jesus."
  • Nico Robin (specifically her time as Mrs. All Sunday and any other time wearing a cowboy hat): "Nico Robin Wearing A Cowboy Hat."
  • Rob Lucci is exclusively called Robert by Luffy, and occasionally "Robert Bitch-ass Lucci" by Mugiwara himself.
  • The Florian Triangle is renamed the Floridian Triangle.
• Instantly Proven Wrong:
  • Just as Law is done telling Smoker that he is just hanging out in his winter island air bnb, so that the marines have no reason to search the facility, several Straw Hats burst through the door with the kids that they found inside the lab. Sanji even says that Law's warlord status is being used to conduct illegal experiments under the Navy's nose as he runs out.
  • Doflamingo thinks that Gear 4 is just a joke and not a threat to him. He doesn't get to finish his thought before Luffy hits him harder than he has ever been hit before in his entire life.
• It Amused Me: Law admits that he used his Devil Fruit to swap the bodies of the Straw Hats, as well as Smoker and Tashigi, rather than use more effective methods to hamper them, for his own amusement.
• Know When to Fold 'Em:
  • During Luffy's rampage on Enies Lobby, during which he keeps screaming for "Robert", a Cipher Pol agent begs Spandam to just turn over Robert to Luffy, citing "He can't be this important."
  • After taking Luffy's strongest attack in Gear 2, Blueno is still capable of fighting. But when he hears Luffy say "Gear 3", he pretends to faint, not wanting to see if Luffy's bluffing.
  • Mugiwara gives an alternate explanation to Katakuri's defeat on Whole Cake Island: he considered trying to keep fighting even longer, looked into the Luffy's future again, saw a vision of Luffy activating Gear 5, and immediately gave up so he wouldn't have to learn what kind of insane power Luffy still had hidden away.
• Let Me Get This Straight...: Doflamingo has to clarify with Luffy that everything that he did in Dressrosa was just so that Luffy could fight Kaido.
• Mistaken for Pedophile:
  • Downplayed. Law doesn't say it outright, but he when he learns about the children Caesar has imprisoned he very heavily implies people might get the wrong idea about a fully grown man who looks like a clown keeping children locked away in a lab.
  • Kuma clearly thinks Moria and his crew are all pedophiles, given he sends Perona away from Thriller Bark explicitly to get her away from them, whom he calls a bunch of perverts.
• Motive Misidentification:
  • Sanji assumed Nami went to church regularly for weeks and owned a nun outfit because she was religious. In reality, she was actually scoping the place out for a heist.
  • Doflamingo assumes Law wants him dead for his many, many crimes against Dressrosa, only to be surprised that Law hates him for killing Corazon.
• Not So Above It All: While Jimmy Scoops usually reacts to the Straw Hats with befuddlement at the bare minimum, he can't help but enjoy himself the moment the Straw Hats start a fight in the Human Shop in Sabaody. When Luffy smashes Charlos' face in, Jimmy cracks a smile, and during the ensuing brawl Jimmy immediately starts punching every noble he can get his hands on.
• Odd Friendship: Despite their relationship being built off Jimmy giving Luffy some fast food and Luffy promptly getting Jimmy in trouble with the law, not to mention Luffy's constant insane shenanigans, Jimmy actually gets along really well with Luffy and has no problems hitching a ride with him when needed.
• Only Sane Man: In each episode, the insane antics of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates is contrasted by the flabbergasted reactions of whoever the point of view character is (usually Jimmy Scoops or the arc's antagonist).
• Overly Narrow Superlative: In Alabasta is Hilarious part 1, Crocodile insists that the only thing that could save King Cobra is if "A magic fighting crackhead came flying down from the sky on a giant bird." Nico Robin lampshades how oddly specific that is, to which Crocodile says it's his greatest fear, right before Luffy shows up riding Pell.
• Perspective Flip: Loguetown is Hilarious, Alabasta Is Hilarious part 1, Skypiea is Hilarious, G-8 is Hilarious, Enies Lobby is Hilarious, and Luffy VS Kaido is Hilarious all are (partially or in full) from the perspective of that arc's antagonist (Smoker, Crocodile, Enel, Vice Admiral Jonathan, Spandam, and Kaido, respectively)
• Phrase Catcher: Whenever Luffy uses one of his Gears for the first time, expect someone in the vicinity to ask "Have you had that transformation this whole time?!"^note  Kaku also asks this upon seeing Zoro's Nine sword style.
• Politically Incorrect Hero: Zoro has a tendency to go after minorities in this version of events (in reference to the Minority Hunter Zoro meme). It gets particularly comedic in Enies Lobby when fighting Kaku: Zoro is on the backfoot and trying to figure out Kaku's weakness, thinks back to what he knows about giraffes, remembers where most giraffes are from, and gets serious.^{Zoro's logic}Giraffes are mainly from Africa, so Zoro is fighting an African person.
• Running Gag:
  • Whenever Luffy introduces himself to somebody, Mugiwara jokes about Luffy's tendency to talk too much by describing it as him giving whoever he's talking to his "name, address, and social security number".
  • During both Enies Lobby is Hilarious videos, the CP9 will regularly mention that they defeated the Straw Hats just yesterday, only for someone to brush it off because that was yesterday.
  Jimmy Scoops: Why do you guys keep bringing up yesterday? You have got to learn to let the past go.
  • The series treats Nico Robin as a totally different character when she's wearing a cowboy hat, insistently referring to her as Nico Robin In A Cowboy Hat.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: While talking to Spandam, Jimmy Scoops learns the man kidnapped Nico Robin, who recently joined the Straw Hat Pirates. His immediate response is to ask to be shown the fastest way off the island.
  Jimmy Scoops: Any chance you could show me the fastest way off the island right now? Just in case you're too busy, or dead, to show me later?
• Serious Business:
  • The Godfather. Doflamingo refuses to kill someone who hasn't had the opportunity to watch it yet and Capone Bege will decide whether or not to kill someone based on if they like the movie, with the implication he'll kill anyone who liked the third part.
  • The Shrek 2 version of "I Need A Hero". The Straw Hat Pirates and the Fire Tank Pirates treat the song with the highest regard to the point that Sanji saying he'll "pull a Shrek 2" (that is, sing the song in a dramatic rescue scene) is enough to immediately convince Capone Bege to give up his plan to poison Big Mom's replacement cake.
• Skewed Priorities:
  • After Jimmy Scoops is turned into a toy and runs into a transformed Nico Robin in Dressrosa, the first step of his escape plan is to find Robin a cowboy hat.
  • When running into the Straw Hats in Sabaody, Jimmy is baffled by the fact that Luffy's group's immediate reaction to learning about the Human Shop is to go play in the amusement park nearby.
• Shout-Out:
  • The walk to Arlong Park has Luffy singing the goofy goober song at the top of his voice.
  • While on Enies Lobby, Luffy challenges Lucci by shouting ROBERT! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE ME! I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!
  • Luffy also calls Gear Second the Kaioken.
  • When Luffy, Law, and Kidd prepare to face off with the marines in Sabaody Archipelago, Law and Luffy quote the "it might be tough if one more shows up" exchange Cloud and Squall have in Kingdom Hearts 2, with Kidd following up with ''and in the morning, I'm making waffles".
  • Commander Jonathan instantly knows Robin isn't Commander Shepard because "He's played Mass Effect." and knows that's not what Shepard looks like.
  • While the women of Amazon Lily attempt to pull off Luffy's groin under the mistaken belief it's a toxic mushroom, Kikyo stops them with the phrase "Wait, Spongebob! We are not cavemen, we have technology!"
• Strange Minds Think Alike: Both Luffy and Doflamingo adore The Godfather with the former calling it one of the greatest films of all time and the latter refusing to kill Law before he gets to see it.
• Stupidest Thing I've Ever Heard: When Sanji is talking up religion (under the mistaken belief Nami is religious), Luffy lets him know exactly how dumb he's being.
  Luffy: I'm not gonna lie Sanji, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. And I lost a rock-paper-scissors match to a crab the other day.
• Take That!: Vander Decken is basically one big pot shot internet alpha male, including acting predatory towards a minor, repeatedly mentioning his podcast, and bringing up common "alpha male" talking points such as claiming that women don't know what they want until a man tells them.
• Taught by Experience: Initially, Jimmy thinks the Straw Hats are fairly reasonable and sane people. By the time of Fishman Island, he reacts to Shyarly's shocked prediction of Luffy destroying the island with a disinterested "I could've told you that."
• Tempting Fate:
  • Crocodile tells King Cobra that the only thing that could save him is "If a magical fighting crackhead came down from the sky riding a giant bird" mere seconds before Luffy shows up riding Pell.
  • When Law tries to discourage Jimmy from interacting with the Straw Hats, Jimmy tries to vouch for them by pointing out that they can't be too crazy. Cue Luffy and half of the crew crashing through the front door of the Human Shop and immediately rushing the stage, vocalizing how they plan to recklessly fight everyone in sight to save their friends. As Luffy is saying this, Law slowly and silently turns towards Jimmy with a "You sure about that?" expression.
  • On Fishman Island, another ill-fated attempt from Jimmy to get people to trust Luffy comes from him telling a crowd that no matter how insane Luffy may seem, he's ultimately a good person at heart. Cue Luffy showing up with their princess, telling her to stay hidden and stop crying in a way that looks very much like a royal kidnapping.
• This Is Gonna Suck: As Luffy menacingly approaches Saint Charloss, Jimmy doesn't say anything and just wears an expression that says he knows what's going to happen and that there's nothing he can do to stop it.
• Too Dumb to Live: Jimmy makes it painfully clear to the fake Straw Hats how stupid their plan is, being especially unimpressed with the fake Luffy thinking a flintlock pistol makes him a threat. In particular, he asks if that pistol can take out a tsunami, citing that the man the fake Luffy is imitating has done it with a single punch and the people liable to come after him will be even stronger than that.
• Tranquil Fury: When Lucci dismisses destroying the Going Merry, saying it was "just a piece of trash", Luffy goes from his previous screaming rage to almost totally calm.
  Luffy: You might be the first person I just straight up murder.
• Villain Has a Point: Doflamingo insists his killing of Corazon was completely justified, citing that not only was he ratting their operation out to the government, but that he tried to kill Doflamingo as well. After he hears this, Luffy agrees, quoting The Godfather as he says that "Sometimes, you can't take half-measures."
