Transiruby (Video Game)

Transiruby is a 2D Metroidvania video game with Collect-a-Thon Platformer elements by Skipmore of Fairune fame.

Siruby, the titular Cyborg heroine, is floating in her tiny space station, intent on delivering a plant that grows by absorbing energy given to her by the U.C., when a dimensional fall occurs, ripping a hole in space from which a gigantic diamond-shaped world emerges. Siruby decides to investigate in the hopes of finding some rare quartz, guided by her trusty cat AI Necom. Along the way, she encounters the blue-haired girl Yamato and fellow quartz-hunter Douglas; with their help, she sets out to discover the truth of the dimension, uncover its many secrets, and accomplish her mission.

Gameplay is split up into 4 big areas, each of which have various collectibles to find scattered around, such as chips needed to open gates or Dark Quartz that gives the names of the Dark Materian enemies. Siruby starts off with a basic jump and attack, then finds more and more abilities that expand her skillset. Killing Dark Materians rewards you with energy that you can use to freeze enemies and use them as platforms to reach certain areas.

This game contains examples of:

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Most of the bosses have a weak point they expose every so often that Siruby can use her downward stab to hit. It's not required to defeat a boss (as Siruby still deals damage attacking the boss's body, if only a little) but very recommended by the game.
  • Bag of Spilling: While we never get to use them beforehand, its stated in-universe that the fall to the other dimension destroyed 70% of Siruby's functions, such as her thruster and map data. Necom sends out a bunch of autonomous boxes to collect materials and create equipment from them, justifying Siruby having to find the boxes and get her powers back.
  • Big Bad: The Phony Angel is the source of the Dark Materian and cause of the dimension fall, and is controlling Yamato to make her open a destructive black hole that will wipe out the dimension.
  • Boss Subtitles: Apparently a legal requirement, since Siruby and Necom discuss what a boss is supposed to be named before fighting it.
  • Brick Joke: In the intro scene, Necom scolds Siruby for her room's disorganization, to which Siruby meekly says she'll "hire a maid at some point". In the ending, she tries to invite Yamato into her station as said maid.
  • Collection Sidequest: Fifteen flying creatures called Dramos can be found in the first three areas and brought back to their mother, and 15 "Mega Tranchips" are also scattered around. Collecting all of either type does nothing but give you an achievement (and a thank you from the mother Dramos).
  • Cyborg: Siruby is one - though it's difficult to tell as she's extremely robot-like.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Yamato is built up in the end as the final opponent and villain who wants to destroy the dimension in order to get herself back home, but after beating her, she turns out to be Brainwashed and Crazy, and Siruby immediately takes the fight to the actual villain, the Phony Angel, afterwards.
  • Flunky Boss: Some bosses spawn the "Hover" Dark Materians that Siruby can freeze and use as platforms to get herself over the boss's weak point or avoid their attacks.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: The Phony Angel doesn't get particularly much buildup other than being seemingly connected to the Dark Materians.
  • Harmless Freezing: The Element Gun can't hurt enemies directly, but it freezes them in place, allowing Siruby to use them as platforms or destroy them in this state to make them drop health pickups.
  • Heart Container: Each of the four areas has a powerup that extends Siruby's health by one pip, as well as a powerup that adds ten max shots to her Element Gun.
  • Killer Rabbit: The third zone's boss is a giant gaming PC.
  • Multiple Life Bars: The Phony Angel has a comical amount of health layers when every other boss in the game only has one.
  • Punny Name: The cat AI Necom, a portmanteau of "neko" (Japanese for cat) and communications.
  • Robot Girl: Downplayed in that Siruby is a cyborg, but she's got the look down. The three "Sister" computers are straight (and giant-size) examples.
  • Shared Universe: With several other of the developers' games, as per an interview.
  • Shout-Out: The Grand Unknown boss's design looks similar to the Big Core line of warships from Gradius (particuarly the Mk. II).
  • Sword Plant: Siruby's deadliest attack option is her downward stab, which can obliterate any Dark Materian in a single hit and does massive damage to bosses when stabbing their weak point.
  • The Very Definitely Final Dungeon: Area 4, the Sunken City which is half Unexpected Shmup Level with exploration, and half normal platforming gameplay.
  • Token Human: In a game where most of the cast are robots or cyborgs of some variety, Douglas stands out as being the most human-like character.
  • Unexpected Shmup Level: Area 4 has a wide open area where Siruby morphs into a glider form and flies around freely, with the Element Gun replaced by a dash. The lead-up to the Grand Unknown fight has Siruby in this form for the entire duration and introduces power-up mechanics and options.
